So that’s really it? I couldn’t believe that because here in California is almost $500 I think is what I paid.

Registration was $250 when I moved to Texas, in CA I pay $400. Car insurance (per month) is $110 here in CA vs $220 when I lived in Texas.

I'll take a higher registration vs. a higher monthly insurance any day.

You need to live somewhere besides Yexas or Cali. There are 48 other options and most of them are cheaper.

Maybe cost of living should be a factor!

I’m moving from CA to WA in a few months. I haven’t looked to see what WA reg is but it has to be cheaper than the $600 I paid in CA for this year :frusty:

If you're moving to Seattle area I wouldn't count on cheaper car registration fees (they're called "car tabs" here). Public transit is funded significantly through car tabs here due to a lack of an income tax and limited road tolling (road tolls are beginning to get more common). There are no property taxes on automobiles however (unlike states like NC).

Wow. I'm never going to move to CA that state is notoriously expensive.
In PA you pay 6% sales tax once when you buy your vehicle there is no annual tax fee.
$55 title fee when you buy it, $78 if it's financed, that include the lien holder fee.
Annual registration is $36 for passenger cars and trucks start at $64 depends on weight class.
We do have anunal state safety inspection and emissions in most counties for gas vehicles. That cost about $65 pass or fail. There is a bill in the state Congress, they were talking about getting rid of emissions on cars less than 8 old because very few fail.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
When I lived in Washington, it was $63 per vehicle per year for registration.

I moved to AZ. I just renewed the Tacos registration, and it was $498.

What about personal property tax in TX? Does TX have that? I have a few friends from PA that were furious when they moved to VA. In PA you pay ALL the vehicles property tax once, upfront when you buy the vehicle (thousands). Then they moved to VA and here we charge property tax every 6 months, doesn't matter where you bought the vehicle. They basically got taxed twice.

Depending on what state you live in...you may already pay part of your registration fees through taxation, or they may disguise it with plate fees and other random charges.

In Georgia my yearly registration on my 2018 taco is $25 out the door. My "vanity" Retired Marine plate is free. We pay the bulk of our vehicle tax at time of purchase.

Correct, you're going to pay either way, just not as much as Cali
Many are high gas taxes like IL
As @hiPSI mentioned, you need to look at overall cost of living.
