Manual or Auto?

Which do you like better and why???

 

If I could do it all over again and get what I wanted I would do a manual.
Reason.....it is what I started driving in, year....not telling

 

lol I have always had standards... i just want to know what people say about autos for offroad and things like that!!

 

Manual....what I learned on. Then had an automatic which was great for city driving, but it started to act funny a few months after towing a trailer across the country. Never found out why, truck got totalled. I want to shift when I decide to shift, and only when I decide to shift....not when the computer thinks it's a good idea. Now I've got a manual again and love it.

 

Same here - first vehicle at 16 was a '92 Toyota 4-banger and it was a manual. I thought about it a lot when I bought my '06 and decided on an auto because of traffic. When I got my '09, I almost got a manual again, but again, got an auto.

I really like a manual, but history is not confirming that......

 

in stop and go traffic a manual can be a huge pain, but standards get better mileage

I wish mine was a standard

 

That's a tough one. I perfer a manual for 4x4n and just flat out joy of driving it. But, I live in the city and own a DC LB so I have no choice other than auto.

I think that Tacoma needs a triptronic tranny!!!

 

Manual, better gas mileage, better resale, better shift control, better at towing, and I like the control it gives me off road. Props to the auto fans but manual all the way for me. Plus my wife sucks at driving stick so she never drives my truck

 

i live out in the country so the i like the standard but now i'm in the city going to college it kinda sucks..... but like said above i like to shift when i want to...

 

HA HA wife won't even get in mine now.

 

interesting because resale in my parts would be worse with a standard I believe.

everyone can drive an auto, but a standard can be only driven by those who can.

 

me and wife can both drive manual but san diego traffic sucks with manual so auto is the way to go

 

Manual, what I learned on. If I could do it over again, 6spd FTW! My Auto has been acting funny, after a few trips to the dunes, and towing.

Auto. I hate the manual in these trucks. Absolutely one of the worst I've ever driven. Granted, I only had it overnight and some folks say that it improves as it breaks in but I didn't feel like waiting around for my truck to shift like I think it should from the factory. The other reason is that I had back surgery in '05 and I can't take a chance on buying a manual and not being able to shift again (sciatica in my right leg).

Wrong on both counts. The auto gets better MPG and resale is higher on an auto. I drove manuals for years so I don't have a problem with them but those two statements simply aren't true.

 

Auto - makes life easier when driving in the city...

 

That is correct.

 

I've got many a friend with the exact same truck except their auto, I beat them on MPG hands down.
You're correct on the resale though I just checked KBB, its used to be the other way around for a long time though.

The auto gets 16/20 and the standard gets 15/18 (2008 model City/Hiway)

first time I've every heard an auto getting better mileage than a standard!
