I guess you can count me in on having this issue. 2019 TRD OffRoad with less than 22K miles. Notice on a hot day it took awhile to start at work, ran a bit rough and died a few feet after putting it in drive. Local dealership told me it will be 2.5 months before they can get to it.

Thankfully there hasn't been any reported accidents or deaths due to this issue . I believe toyota has cleared themselves legally with their recall notice .

Confirms what I have been hearing. We are going to be in the 90s all week here in Ohio so hope I’ll be ok.

I just put up a post about my 2020 Tacoma stalling out on several occasions. I posted the codes my dealer found on my thread (low fuel pressure and too lean). Unfortunately they just clear the codes and send you on your way, saying they can’t find a problem. Definitely intermittent. Am going back again to try and get them to fix something.

So is your truck sitting on the dealer lot for months on end? I'm in the valley, I can't have this happen to mine out in the middle of nowhere

Happened to see this the other day on "How It's Made" about low pressure fuel pumps - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8Sx45WPOHk

There's quite a bit that can go wrong with fuel pumps and I guess that has happened. Outsourcers use outsourced parts, use cheap inexperienced labor, worn out presses, there's a lot that can go wrong with something that is fundamental for engine operation.

My '97 the Denso in-tank fuel pump died out of warranty. Went to the dealer expert, he printed a wiring diagram, said check these two relays with 12v for proper on/off operation and if they're good then you have to replace the in-tank fuel pump.

It was the tank fuel pump, after pulling it and hooking it to 12v it would work intermittently. Replaced it with a NAPA for 1/3 of the Denso cost and went about the same miles before I sold the truck.

Just curious about the failures, it looks like heat/temperature could be a factor.
Do you recall how much gas was in the tank at the time of the pump failure? Any other clues or anything else worth mentioning?

Mine just went with 30K miles on my 2019. I'm in AZ and it was about 103 out. Started truck and it had erratic idle. Than it started chugging along during acceleration. Check engine light was on. Got it home & it seemed to be running fine. Check engine light was not on the next day and drove fine 35 miles to the dealer.

Dealer said it was the fuel pump. Gave me another 2020 Tacoma loner & are replacing with another recall fuel pump (not the new upgraded one). Suppose to pick it up tomorrow & will get the new upgraded pump whenever it comes in.

Well I have a 2017 that when I gas up and then restart the engine the truck struggles to start I may have to wait 10 minutes or so before it starts up. This only happens when I gas up other than that it starts just fine Taking it to the dealer this week. Also my check engine light stays on

What is involved in the job - empty tank, drop it, replace pump, replace tank, fill and drive?

Can you give us more info?

    Outdoor temperature at the time?

How much fuel in the tank at the time?

Hard to start or running odd before it fully failed?

Any details will help to possibly prolong the life of these pumps

Bump. I would like to know as well. I have a 19 with 12k miles that I’m hoping makes it until September. Running just fine as of now but I’m nervous about it.

    Sure thing.
    2019 trd sport 2wd
    miles--- 15k
    temp -- 92f
    fuel --little over 1/2 tank

    It never completely failed.
The first warning shot was after visiting an ATM. I got back in the truck and when I started it was running rough. I drove it about 3/4 of a mile back to my house. About halfway back it smoothed out. The second warning shot I came home for lunch about a 5 mile drive a week later. When I came out after eating it started and acted the same way. I shut it off and restarted and it was the same. I shut it off and restarted it again but this time it shook really bad and tach was reading about 300rpm and then the trac off and check engine light came on. I shut it off for about 5 minutes, I restarted it and she was smooth but the check eng light was still on. I drove back to work and finished my day. When I started it to leave work the check eng light was now off. I slapped the laptop on it to check codes and they were p1605 and p0087. I took it to the dealer the next morning and dropped it off as I don't need a third warning shot lol.

I also don't want the same pump put back in there. I will wait for the new one. I believe that some of these will fail without any warning.
The risk is too great for me to take. YMMV
