I was more concerned about non resident laws if there were any. I have never traveled out of state with my firearms before. I don't plan on concealed carrying the pistol. I just want to have it in the vehicle while I am traveling off road from Bend to the Alvord and then straight back up into Eastern Washington, even if it has to be locked in a pelican case. If the laws are too cloudy I will be fine with my fiskars axe for camp defense

you think that's bad? try ordering from Optics Planet...waited 2 months for a g-code scorpion mag holster. I called them a few times, could not get a hold of anyone, then finally got a couple replies via email saying they were behind from COVID, then said they were waiting on the manufacturer. So I then called g code and they told me those holsters were never backoredered, never out of stock and that Optics Planet never ordered anymore.

Not to mention, everything I've seen on Optics Planet's website says in stock, regardless. They do a great job of luring you in with low prices and free shipping, but it always ends up being more hassle/ wait then it's worth.

In short, friends don't let friends use Optics Planet.

 

I've seen this a lot on reddit and the consensus is basically never order anything from them

 

I mean the first order I ordered from glock store was processed, shipped and delivered in less than a week and it was a little after covid started so what the actual fuck

 

I'm in the beginning phases of building my first AR and I'm thinking of going with a .300 blackout pistol w/9" barrel. Any words of advice, things to look for, brands to go with, etc? I keep hearing to spend the money on the trigger, barrel, and optics so that is what I'm focusing on now.

IMO if you dont have a suppressor and dont overly plan to get one skip the 300 BLK. Its a fun caliber and i do love mine but it really is best suppressed. Its also fairly expensive to just shoot compared to 223/556.

Triggers....the LaRue MBT is a good, cheapish option that has gotten good reviews. I run a few different Geissele triggers personally but that was also before the laRue came out. They are also a lot more $$.

Barrels....No need to go crazy on the barrel IMO for 300blk. Seems like most reputable brand barrel these days will do 1-2 MOA without much issue depending on the ammo.

Optics...are personal. Theres plenty of cheaper options that are good. Just depends on exactly what you want (RDS, scope, ect)

 

The plan is to go suppressed but I understand that is a lengthy process.

Yeah I second the hesitation on a 300 BLK. Ammo is even more scarce than 223/556 and when you do find it it's exceptionally expensive. I ordered a .223 wylde barrel to swap out the BLK.

 

300 is a fun round to shoot, suppressed or not. Yes it's more expensive than 223/556, but for target shooting that argument sort of goes out the door as soon as you shoot anything above a pellet rifle. the 300 is an amazing round for home defense. A braced pistol or SBR is the perfect thing for it. 9" barrel is ok, but 10-10.5 is ideal for that round. For you first one, you might consider buying something all put together, but you can sometimes save coin if you buy a complete upper and a complete lower. I would not recommend building one from scratch (ie. stripped upper and lower) for your first AR. In terms of best value, I think Aero Precision is really hard to beat. Made just south of Seattle as well. DO NOT let anyone or anything talk you into buying a PSA/ Palmetto State Armory. They are junk and if you have ever shot a quality firearm in any category, you'll immediately notice how gritty and rough they feel. It's a common go to for those getting into ARs and I want to save you from wasting $. Rainier Arms is a good shop to check out to handle and inspect different makes.
