3 dimension got me dialed in, we’re super nice and I haven’t had any problems with the gears so far

Unless you get a diesel or a bigass V8 gas guzzler, there are trade offs. Yes turbos or super charging are options. That said, 2500 RPM at 80, pulling a trailer, up a hill, with a V6 that loves to rev is not a bad thing. You might not love 2500 RPM, but that engine is perfectly happy.

OVT is absolutely worth the money. If possible see if someone who has tuned will let you drive their truck. Again I have a MT Sport and 1000% love my 4.88 (which is essentially like going 5.29 with AT) so, we are different obviously.

Ya I fat fingered the 5th gear ratio. It's 2150rpm

I've been learning the ins and outs of regearing through others' experiences posted here. I think I'm going to do it with 4.88s. Has the Nitro vs Revolution been hashed out somewhere that I missed? Is there any general consensus that one is viewed as better than the other? Revolution claims to be quieter but I feel like this has more to do with the install than the gears themselves, could be wrong. Also, is there a distinct advantage to eliminating the crush sleeve and going with the sold pinion spacer?

Not sure, but I did learn this while purchasing my 4:88's: From ECGS, "We use our brand gear which is same brand as Nitro."

They are hyper expensive, and in south east PA. I called them and they quotes me $1200 per axle for labor alone.

IVE read both 4.88 and 5.29 mega threads.
Just looking for a confirmation that I'm going the right route. Stock wheels with 265 75 16's.
Live near Charlotte NC so pretty flat roads.
    Only pull light trailer occasionally.
Think the 4.88's are the way I should go.
No plans of lift or bigger tires.
    Thoughts ?
Considering OVtune also, Is regear more beneficial than a tune ?
Asked similar question in an OVtune thread but haven't heard from anyone that has regeared
    Thanks in advance

Wow. Glad I searched, and found this thread. Really useful information right off the bat.

I was aiming for 5.29, but after hearing everyone saying their trucks cap at 83mph that really turned me away.

As for my truck, AT. bed rack, roof rack, RTT year round, 100lbs~ case (weight includes the gear in it), King 2.5 front & back, Icon RXT. On 33"s
Front bumper in the near future.

I don't plan on going up in tire size so I'm curious if 4.88 would be the route to go.

Is it true your truck caps at 83mph?

I just downloaded the Tacoma 3.5L Tune Pack and I am a bit overwhelmed. I have stock tires so my options for regular unleaded fuel are as follows:

    04B31_Reg_Stock.p5f
    04B31_Reg_Stock_4.88.p5f
    04B31_Reg_Stock_5.29.p5f
    04B31_Reg_Stock_Thx_4.88.p5f
    04B31_Reg_Stock_Thx_5.29.p5f

What are the differences between these tunes, and is my truck eligible to try any of them?

I just uploaded the first one, and I still am having issues with the sluggishness as it seems to want to jump into 5th+ gear way too soon (as low as 35mph sometimes), so I am thinking about trying different ones, but I have no idea what each one means.

    Thank you all!
    Travis

I’m going 4.88’s on Friday. I’ve had the gears for quite awhile, really before many people had gone 5.29 so I’m hoping I don’t regret it. I’m on 32’s in an auto and haven’t added much weight and don’t plan to add much more. No matter what it’s going to be way better than stock.

You will be happy with them. I have a similar setup as you and have had my 4.88's for a couple weeks and really like them.
