I just spoke with my local guy down at Discount Tire. He said the AT3 LTs in the stock size of 265/70/16 only come in a Load Range E. He said the only way to get that size in a Load Range C is to purchase AT3 4S. Has anyone else run into this??

I see only standard load on their website for the 4S. And, yes, only E load for the LTs. No C loads in the size you mentioned.

you can get 265/75-16 in C or E. add an inch of diameter? most folks do that upsizing when replacing stock tires and like the change.

How's the ride on those bad boys? Too stiff? Bumpy? I want to get these, just worried about the stiffness and wonder how loud they get on the road

Compared to the KO2’s, Duratracs, and Kenda Klever’s that I’ve been running these tires are softer and quieter. They ride great and are real quiet. So far I’m really impressed.

Anybody know of any advantage of running C load rating over the SL/4S? The SL shows to actually have a higher load capacity.

So all LT sizes are designed to handle max load for 100% of there life while SL are designed to be at max load for a short period of time without failure. The numbers are confusing but an LT tire will always be more durable than a SL tire. Usually the LT sizes use a thicker sidewall ply vs a SL that is why they ride a little stiffer. Plus a LT will have a deeper tread. On the other hand the SL will almost always be better for on road tracking and an LT for off-road traction.

I have my lift going on soon and I currently have Nitto Ridge Grapplers (love em) but have also had great luck with Coopers in the past and really like the At3 XLT in 285/70r17. Cant make up my mine.

Im gonna go with XLT’s again next time. I love the ridge grapplers but holy crap they’re heavy. Not worth the weight to me and I really love these XLT’s. 30k on them and down to 11/32’s

I’m seriously considering switching the Coopers ST Maxx in 255/85R16 I’m currently running with Discoverer AT3 LT in 265/75R16 (either C or E load rating). The 2020 TRDOR is running 4.88 gears and though I do like the ST Maxx, the goal is to shed some weight (8-11 lbs each) and diameter (1.5 inch) to improve mileage and torque. I’ve moved from Minnesota to Texas and am now dealing with lots more high speed highway driving and more of desert condition trails. We do off-road (though more in an overlanding capacity) and we will soon be pulling a ~4000 travel trailer.

Will I regret the traction loss? Also, would C or E load rating be better?

Thanks for the info and suggestions.

Used to have ST Maxx E rated, they were way too heavy. Have at3 XLT E rated tires now and love them way more.

you maybe could get more info by browsing, because it's so subjective. i have run multiple sets of both STMaxx & AT3 LT, same sizes, all range E, all on the same truck. i could never live with anything less than the most firm tires i can realistically fit on the truck, but that's just me. some are completely the opposite. just imagine what kind of drive & capability you want and go from there.

    I went from STMaxx 285/75/16 on a Tacoma to the at3 XLT 285/75/17 on a GX470.

I was debating these two tires as well... but thought they may still drive similarly if both are E rated. Is gas mileage and drive better with the AT3 LTs? If so, I’ll definitely go that way. If it’s all a wash, I’d probably do the maxxs because they look better and would be better off road.

    I didn’t want to do the 4s.

they drive different. they have the same internal carcass with the same specifications. the tread makes the difference. AT3's are vastly superior in wet conditions. the are pretty damn capable off road as well, but STMaxx are a big step beyond for anything challenging. if you are trying to choose, there are many minor differences but wet weather on-road vs. off road capability is the main question.
