I currently have a DB cover with a voodoo rack. Great for throwing stuff on top of when I'm cooking off the tail gate, but kind of a pain in the ass when I need to actually haul something as I can no longer actually open the DB cover.

Anyone know of a retractable cover that is still functional with a rack? Something strong enough to hold up a cast iron pan, some water jugs, me occasionally standing on it, etc or am I just dreaming here?

I saw some aluminum retractable and lockable covers but look like they would collapse if I were to put my 5 gallon water jug up there but haven't seen anything I've liked since.

If it helps, the main reason I got the DB in the first place was that I wanted lockable and secure storage that could take a beating. DB was a safe bet. Rifles and handguns sometimes go back there so I need to be 100% confident that it's not going anywhere when I pop in to resupply at the store or other quick stops.

Yeah I don't think you'll be able to find a retractable tonneau cover that is going to support a lot of weight. Retrax I think makes a retractable one but I don't think that will support much weight on top but you can always call them.

I have the retrax pro XR. It holds a pretty good amount of stuff I put on on it, including loaded storage boxes. I have not tried to stand on it. I like this cover because I can easily put on / take off cross bars with the cover installed AND maintain max width of bed.

09 tacoma here, I have a truckcoversusa rollup. Aluminum thing, they have a model with a rack built in to it - but I put rack bars up on the side. You can do the thing you want to, I'm sure of it.

Ahh yes, the retrax is what I saw where I was questioning whether I could put some serious weight on it. I would probably go for a lower model since I don't need the T slots or cross bars. Looks like it would also work with my existing bedrack too....Anyone wanna trade for a DB SE? lol

Looks like this might work actually. Advertised to hold 500 lbs will be plenty. Only downside is I need to figure out if I can jam a steel bracket between it and the bedrail for my rack. Also 1800 bucks!

I have the truck covers usa tonneau with yakima tracks on the bedsides. It's great quality. I only use standard height yakima bars and towers, so it works for me well. (snowboard rack, bike rack, roof top tent above bed)

Retrax pro seems to have more 'elevated' bed rack possibilities due to their location of the bedside slots. The truck covers usa rack bolts into the bed cleat rails.. not exactly sure how retax mounts, but the T slot seems to sit a bit more directly on top on the bedsides, and their slots are a bit longer.

    Racks available with retrax:

I have light rails I kind of weaseled in with my truck cover. I had a basic tonneau cover, and anytime I needed to haul anything large I had to pull the whole thing off. Annoyed me to no end. So the truckcoverusa was way worth it to me. Had it 10 years, just recently had to replace the locking mechanism but otherwise pretty trouble free. Cooking up a plan to replace those goofball light rails with something fabricated, I'll post up pictures when I get to that.

Front runner has load bars and and rack system which works with retraxpro Xr as well. I will probably go with regular heigh Yakima for easy on/off and storage.
