Are there any huge mechanical or feature differences (crawl control, rear locking diff, etc) between the 2020 Off-Road and 2017? I am considering any gen 3 Off-Road for purchase and have run across several 2017s with less than 50k miles for 30 or just under. What would some of the trade-offs be besides exterior updates between both year models?

Probably the biggest are the Apple CarPlay, driver's seat adjustments & LED headlights for the 2020

Gotcha, the 17s don't come stock with LED?

I drove a 2020 this past weekend and the seat adjustments were super nice. I am a modest 5' 7" so that feature would be nice.

Prior years have LED running lights, not headlights. The seats didn't adjust until 2020

Didn't they also add Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) to Tacomas starting 2018? That may be a pro or a con for you.

On 2020's Led DRL come stock, but the headlights and fogs are an option

Not sure what was beeping on a dirt road, but I doubt its TSS. TSS has to see lane markers and will beep if you do not signal and a wheel starts touching a line. If there are no lines (dirt road) it won't activate. Also only works above 32 MPH or something like that.

....I like my adaptive cruise control :crapstorm:. But yes in 18 is when the TSS showed up. You can turn down/off most all of it though. I don't have my lane departure or blindspot monitors on.

It wasn't the seat belt warning was it? It can get annoying pretty quick

LED headlights aren’t standard on 2020. The driving lights may be, but not the headlights. That’s an option. The biggest things the 2020 will have are the Apple/Android Auto, and that power drivers seat. The grille is “refreshed” too which many people like.

TSS is kinda annoying but you can turn most features off except the emergency braking, that I know of. That shit pisses me off and has made it worse than me braking. But I'll admit Cruise control radar is pretty nice. Other items, led headlights, driver side cubby in bed is gone, and above mentioned.

Are you talking about the pre-collision thing? I wasn't aware it actually hit the brakes for you? I thought it just alerted you that you were about to hit something lol.

That cruise control thing is going to take time to grow on me. What I don’t like, is that it senses a car WAY out in front of you and already starts slowing down. This takes away your speed and momentum to make the pass swiftly. So essentially, you have to switch lanes and then build up the speed that you lost. Does that make any sense?

Yea it slams brakes. Worst was in the rain and made me hydroplane, luckily I drove a track s2000 that did it often and was used to controlling hydroplaning. Mine usually if it happens beeps getting close to vehicles.

You can adjust the distance it senses. One of the buttons on the steering wheel, there's 3 distances.

Gotcha, I didn't know it actually would apply the brakes. I have mine set to the "normal" distance so I guess it beeps and I hit the brakes before it needs to intervene, but good to know it will! I guess slamming on the brakes is better than rear ending someone!

I have to laugh at people who gush over power seats????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

It's not exactly power steering or power brakes.

It is kinda laughable, and I have the power seat. Just adjust your seat and never touch it again. That’s my mindset about that.
