Where is the Diff Locker Breather?

Hey guys, new here. I was just wondering where the diff locker breather was since I’m having a hard time finding it. I’ve seen the regular diff breather, but what about the locker breather?

 

the locker isnt a separate part is it? so it doesnt need it's own does it?

 

Well, in the 4Runner, it is a separate part. As in the diff and the locker don’t share the same breather tube. There’s two in the 4Rnnr.

I've seen many write ups and instructionals on diff beathers for Tacomas and trucks in general. This is the first I've seen anything about a locker breather.

My Taco with a E-locker doesn't have that. I doubt yours does either. (EDIT: yes it does, lol)

 

A 2020 Taco with rear elocker does not have a locker breather because everything is inside the diff and it is electric. The front diff has an actuator breather along with a diff breather that can be located coming up the wheel well inside the engine compartment next to the fuse/relay box. Only other breaters are Trans and Tcase which are located on top of the trans.

 

Thats because people like to hype things up but dont always understand why. (how many people can actually point to having water in the rear diff after water crossings.. I know I didnt after many rocker-deep crossings)

Anyway, back on topic.. On the 2nd gens its a very tiny rubber tube that runs up into the rear cross member near the fuel tank. It almost looks like a wire cause its so small. Im not sure about the 1st gens

yep, same on the 1st gens that I've seen.

 

There's no locker breather on my 2004 TRD.

 

Here's the breather on my '02, same as on my old '01 - off & on the truck.

I just crawled under my truck to check this out again, and low and behold...

I guess my just skipped right over it all these years and never considered this. Guess I just assumes it was a wire.

 

lol - yeah, I thought it was a wire, too, until I tried to unplug it - by feel, of course.

 

Lol, my old thread . . . so are you guys SURE that it's electric and internal? If so, then why does the 5th Gen 4Runner have a breather for the locker?

I crawled under the Taco today, but I got pretty lost up there + there wasn't much room

EDIT: I'm referring to 3rd Gens with factory e-lockers by the way
