I'm doing a URD Stage 2 clutch and flywheel, and plan to replace the TOB while I'm in there. I understand there really isn't' a 'performance' or overengineered solution on the market (if there is let me know!).
My Toyota dealership quoted me $140 for the OEM part - ouch. (31230-35151)

Amazon carries a generic NSK model here -> https://www.amazon.com/NSK-58TKZ350...=1&keywords=31230-35151&qid=1594048664&sr=8-1

Does NSK produce the OEM bearing? Am I fine to use this and not the genuine part?

    Thanks!

I have no idea about the TOB, but if you are going to do the FW, be sure that you are 100% there. There have been posts from folks on both sides of the fence after getting it done.

I would enjoy the improve bite and feel of the clutch plate though.

This is a place where you don't want to skimp because it means going back in.

NSK is not a generic/knockoff per se, it's a huge company and possibly the OEM part. You'll know when you pull your old one and I bet it won't say toyota.

I have your exact setup your going to love it. I have 35s and no regear and the heavy flywheel is night and day. Expect a long break-in period for the clutch about 2000 miles.
Go OEM that's what I did its a little pricy but your already about 2 grand in :)

Cool - thanks guys. I'll go OEM but appreciate the feedback!
I've never replaced a clutch in my vehicles, so the feel will be something new to me anyway. I'll give a personal opinion once it's completed. We're slating for early August!

In fear of Chinese knockoffs on Amazon, I would buy that somewhere else. Maybe your local NAPA.

+1. Get it from a retail store, you can usually find at least a 20% coupon online somewhere too.

Install Was around 1500 on gears from my local shop. I don’t trust myself with this install.
Clutch and heavy flywheel install is going to be done with my friends and myself, I’m looking for the torque specs so we get it done sooner. I’ve seen a different post someone posted this short shifter and I’ll take it if it’s like how my friends hurst short shifter is on his 08 taco. Wasn’t sure about buying URD short throw because of how it’s built, but I’ll let you know how it drives after I get it all done.

AISIN is another big supplier for Toyota and should be the manufacturer of the TOB, iirc. Rock Auto had the clutch kit for my 2nd gen.

guess i missed the thread when you were asking, but i just replaced all that myself with URD Stage 2 clutch and new everything etc, including the pedal and MC assembly. it's a great upgrade, one of my favorites on the truck. definitely don't skimp on the TOB. and enjoy that new clutch.

DO NOT BUY AN AFTERMARKET TOB. OEM IS THE BEST AVAILABLE.

Torque flywheel bolts to like 63 or 64 I believe. It’s been a minute since I did mine.

Quick tip for the transmission removal. Before reinstalling, bolt the exhaust brackets back to the transmission if able. They are a bitch to reach. Also, the 2 upper transmission bolts on my truck were a different length than the rest of them. Pay attention to that. Also. All the brackets are a pain to reach on top of the transmission. Not so bad when removing, but reinstall is a bitch.

Me and a buddy did my clutch install in about 12 hours on a Saturday.

and now i am quoting myself.

i recently went to town and replaced the whole clutch, hydraulics, and pedal assembly like i mentioned previously. and i replaced the TOB with a brand new TOB from Toyota.

I've put about 3k miles on all this and it's a dream come true BUT now the TOB is grinding and doing the rhythmic bead in a bowl thing with the pedal down. :annoyed:

one thing though.. it does it cold only in the past week, and it goes away after the truck is fully warmed. is it certain I'll need a replacement?

the whole front end is getting redone with all new stuff and a crazy amount of reinforcement, it was supposed to be in the shop last week but my builder is having his second baby and is out until the end of August or until he starts thinking about how expensive two kids are, whichever comes first, and he'll call me back to the shop. until then I'm grinding away and looking at another shop day to pay for cus this brand new damn TOB.

that was round 2 of 3.

at that time i opened it back up, found the wave ring spacer loose, contacted URD, got a replacement ring, and reinstalled everything with another new TOB. that was good for several thousand miles until round 3 of 3 that wasn't related to any noise or TOB stuff.
