Brings back bad memories of paying a "personal property tax" of 440/year for a new taco in VA. Screw that....back home and getting ready to renew for $27.00

CO was higher, instead of paying PPT, CO gets you at registration

How's it more then? Previous poster said a '19 Offroad was $505 in CO.. that'd easily be double that in northern Va (considering annual PPT and registration fees.)

I do not remember what I paid last summer at my initial registration when I got my brand new plates on my brand new Tacoma. I want to say it was $732. I get having to pay high at that point.

I am just shocked that a year later I have to pay $500 for a sticker. Was not expecting that.

I bought my truck in VA and a couple months later moved to CO. The registration and PPT was less combined than the registration CO if I recall.

My 17 was over $800 and this year in 2020 is only $330. It goes down exponentially later

Tennessee is less than $50 a year. I just don't understand paying $500 to register a freaking vehicle. We don't have state taxes in this state either. Some of these states are crazy.

I paid like 20 a year when I was there. It was insanely cheap. Everything there was cheap... housing, no sales tax on vehicles...

Here's info I prepared in a previous thread for cost of taxes in Virginia:

    The appraisal values are guestimates.

    2018 TRD PRO 4x4

    Appraisal Year 1: $40,000
    Appraisal Year 2: $37,600
    Appraisal Year 3: $35,344
    Appraisal Year 4: $33,223
    Appraisal Year 5: $31,229
    Appraisal Year 6: $29,356

    Tax Year 1: $1,199.20
    Tax Year 2: $1,103.20
    Tax Year 3: $1,012.96
    Tax Year 4: $928.12
    Tax Year 5: $848.36
    Tax Year 6: $773.44

    = $5,865.28 in taxes over 6 years.

In Virginia the appraisal amounts that exceed $20,000 are taxed at a much higher rate. If you own a vehicle worth less than $20k you pay peanuts in taxes (by peanuts I mean less than $200... which is apparently more than some states charge for $40k trucks.)

Interesting, I dont recall paying near those numbers but you raise an interesting point, I imagine many states follow a similar tax appraisal process

The state ends up filling their budget one way or the other. Property tax on a house in Louisville is 1% per year, in Nashville it's 3%. You guys get to avoid vehicle and state income tax, but have an extra point of sales tax.

The property hike didn't affect me in my county. Nashville, on the other hand, is being run by the same feckless people who have run it for years, so their tax and spend schtick is still alive and well there.

The state is in the middle of a huge growth spurt though. My once little town is now doubled in size. It's good and bad. More people makes for a busy city but we are flush in money right now.

Fair enough, but even the rural counties in eastern Tennessee have a rate closer to 2%. Memphis is somehow 7.2%, Chattanooga is 5%, Knoxville 4.6%, etc. Not paying state income tax sounds great to me, but the state will make up that money up somewhere.

Mine is nowhere near that now. They get you good for the first 2 or 3 years and them it starts going down a lot.
