What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

yeah, been wanting one for years. Hit a deer a couple months ago and took the opportunity to upgrade.

 

That the Ebay scangauge mount? There is a thread on here about it too, but Ebay right?

 

Cleaned up a set of surface mounted BD squadrons. Converted to flush mount. Not looking forward to drilling more holes in the bumper but I did pick up some muscle for that the other week...

 

I believe it is from the same seller. He also recently came out with ultragauge mounts. I almost went ultragauge but the top of the line scangauge 2 is much more capable.

 

Yes, it's from a eBay seller. I got the same setup and I like the way it turned out.

 

I'm not necessarily looking for more volume from the subs, just a cleaner bass with less rattling. This totally fixed the issue I was having. I'd rather leave the back panel on, that's just what I prefer, Even if you can't see it. I'm not much of a bass head. SQ is my style

 

Just posting now but swapped out the nerf bars that came with my truck when I bought it with a set of Nfab step bars. I went with the 2 inch tubes and I believe I made the right choice. I also washed the truck.

 

got my exhaust rerouted today and new muffler welded on with an exhaust dump after the axle. will post pics when i have service

 

Got the third brake light for the Softopper installed today. Credit to @EatSleepTacos for the light/install idea. Pretty easy to be honest, hooked it up to the tail light.

 

I have never got an alignment after just changing wheels and tires. Only if I have altered the suspension in any way. Changing wheels and tires doesn't change your alignment settings or the geometry of how your suspension is working.

 

If you are changing wheels that have a different offset than before than an alignment is advised. I just had a set of new wheels with 0mm offset and that guys at the shop did an alignment check and said it was out of whack. I didn't get the alignment because it still drives straight and i dont have too much tread left of my tires. But supposedly changing your stance will affect alignment.

 

Did you have an alignment done before changing your wheels also to know if you you weren't "out of whack" then too?

Alignment is toe, camber, and caster. Changing tires and rims doesn't affect tow. It will be the same before and after. Camber might be more noticeable with wider wheels but it doesn't change the working dynamics of the suspension. Caster is only affected with suspension changes also. Scrub radius will change but that does not change the alignment.

 

That looks really nice. I recently added a lot more brush scratches to my finish. Did you have much of that on yours before doing that work?

 

Did this somehow. These two are the mounting points for the aft two bolts that hold on the IFS skid plate. These are factory threaded into the crossmember that supports the LCA mounts.



I was taking my truck in for periodic maintenance at a local stealership. Still have one more oil change on maintenance agreement. Also, thought I had a transmission problem due to noises I was hearing, and feeling. So, removed t-case skid, and mid skid. Back two bolts on IFS skid kept spinning. Couldn't remember what version the mounts were (captive nuts or just threaded into crossmember) so asked them to look at that to see if they could remove. The above pictures reveal how they are designed. Don't know how this happened. I've bashed the front skid pretty hard a few times. Guess I hit it harder than I thought. Anyway, the idiots at the stealership had the same problem I had, and so they just cut up my skid. Without my authorization!



Pissed. Went back to them and talked with the service manager. Now, if I can find the receipt they are going to reimburse me for the cost of the skid. Luckily I was swapping out to steel. but am forced to do it now, instead of later. IF, if I can get the mounting bolt holes repaired. Not sure how that's going to work, yet.

 

Who made the skid? Call them up, maybe they can help you with the invoice copy.

 

Yikes. I've had that happen before where the nut just kept spinning. It's just a nut that's tack welded inside the frame so it must've broke free. Anyways, I used that as an excuse to go buy a sawzall and long ass blade and was able to reach in there and cut if off. For now, I've just left those two mounting points unsupported but I have to drop my skid soon anyways, so I'm going to put some rivnuts in the frame.

 

Already did that, yesterday. Still waiting to hear back.

 

In this case, it's just threaded. Well, it WAS just threaded. No backing nut. Surprised me. 2nd Gen. Really difficult to get a hand in there for a backing nut. May have to try. Gotta be a real small hand. Since mine is close to that, I can feel the hole, but it's a tight fit.

 

Oh yeah. I had all kinds of scratches and swirls.

 

I agree with you as well. I never got an alignment when I replaced my wheels and tires and they were a different offset.
