Do vehicles need to be inspected in Florida?
Florida drivers do not need to obtain a yearly inspection for their vehicles, nor are they required to have a vehicle emission test. Only two situations require car inspections by the state: A driver purchased a new car from outside of Florida.Jan 11, 2019

And I used to belly ache about my tags here in Mississippi.

Not sure about other states, but it's kinda screwball here for in Mississippi.

The amount you pay is based on a value percentage of the vehicle you buy. I'm not sure of the exact amount, but it varies from county to county, city to city. Then they add on top of that "road privledge" taxes (every year), plus registration fees every year, and a few others I forget. Your first two or three years hit ya in the pocketbook.

After about fourth year, it goes down a good bit (assuming you buy a brand new vehicle).

If you turn around a buy a vehicle that is 10+ years or older, your tags are dirt cheap. Like no more than $50-75.

And then they add speciality fees for custom plates or "vanity plates" (i.e. colleges, honoring veterans, NASCAR, etc.). There is a whole host of vanity plates.

If you're just so curious about our vanity plates:

    https://www.dor.ms.gov/TagsTitles/Pages/License-Plates.aspx

But last December when I renewed my tags for my 2016, it was roughly $200 (that's including a $32 fee for personalized tags).

Hopefully this upcoming December it'll be a good bit cheaper.

Thanks for picking up after the slobs. There're also plenty of locals that use the forest roads in CO as an enormous wastebin while "wheeling."

Tag cost vary from State to State. Depends what the fee is used for and other State Taxes. In Arizona for example, part of it goes towards the funds devoted to city and county roads. A portion of your vehicle license tax also goes toward a state highway fund to build better roads. Additional portions are distributed into your city and county general fund.

Basically, tags cost depends how the State funds itself.

Yea I feel ya. But at least it includes all local and state property taxes for the year. I think some here it may not.

So much for the old " Buy the more expensive Truck, it will have better Resale Value" Sales trick. Between more money upfront, more taxes, more finance charges, more Insurance (sometimes) and higher registration fees you will never get back all the extra money you spent. If you want the nicer vehicle just buy it, but please don't claim it will save you money.

Floriduh has the highest percentage of dangerous POS cars on the road in the nation. You don't need brakes, mufflers, bumpers or even working turn signals to drive here.

On the plus side, we can tint our windows as dark as we want. Which is pretty much mandatory if you want to avoid be gunned down by retiree road rage transplants from New York and New Jersey (edit, and Michigan)

Low taxes has so many benefits.

Yes, for sure. I tend to just call them "voters." We have sweet roads to maintain and don't do tolls on everything (cue NJ et al. grumbles...).

My husband and I visit to do hang gliding competitions in the spring. But only for a couple of weeks.. that's plenty  He landed in the Villages during one of the tasks and oh my god the cops were there before he was even out of his harness. Grouchy old bastards. The guy that owned the field where I landed came out and offered me a cold bottled water asking if I needed a phone, then was asking all about the wing and such.. He landed in the wrong field. LOL
