Premium Audio Upgrade for less than $250

Best for a budget is kicker compRT loaded 10”. Fits nice with no mods (besides removing the plastic) and sounds good. It’s not crazy but it’s also like $200. The 12” version will fit with some modification (removing two of the child car-seat latches and the plastic seat-backing)

You can get a large selection of pre-made empty boxes from GroundShaker, or have MrMarv custom build you something.

 

Just finished my install recently.
I did the Subaru Tweeters first, but did not notice any difference... Wonder if they are blown...

Then got Kicker's CS fronts and KS rears.
Got them both for only $150.

The fronts have really improved the clarity of my music.
The rears added little difference though...
Will maybe add a hideaway then upgrade the HU.

I do not know if it has been mentioned yet.
I have noticed if you chose to install 6.75 speakers for the rear and use the provided screws from Kicker, then they would pierce the door's sheet metal.

Because the stock speakers are 6.5, if you went for a 6.5 speaker it wouldn't be an issue.
But a 6.75 speaker's mounting holes line up with the outer ring of the door's speaker hole.

Used a file to shave down the tips of the screws.

 

Do you have a suggested budget amp to go along with the Comprt 10”?
Also, would I want the 4 or 2 ohm. What’s the difference?

Btw, Got the KS 6 x 9 components and KS 2 way rears with the Key 200 installed. Sounds awesome! Super crisp! But does need some bass. Really appreciate your help with that! You da man Destin!

We test drove a 2020 Camry for my wife yesterday. It was a Nightshade, but just a basic stereo system as far as I know. it sounded REALY good though! I was definitely impressed

 

Budget amp for compRT 10..
the key 500.1 is nice for a small footprint, and runs like $250.
You can get plenty of good amps that will easily power that sub for cheaper, they’ll just be bigger. If you plan on mounting it behind the seat anyway, this won’t be an issue. You just need something that can run 400w RMS. Good brands for that power can be had for under $200 all over the place

 

Question - the recommendation for the CompRT 10 is 400RMS - would you run the KEY500.1 at 2ohm for 300RMS or 1ohm for 500RMS?

 

That will depend on which sub you actually get. If you got the loaded enclosure, you’re kind of stuck. If you are getting the speaker and a separate enclosure, you can get the 2ohm DVC and run it at 1ohm

 

gotcha, hadn’t thought about the fact you couldn’t wire the loaded enclosure for 1ohm, figured it was just a standard DVC CompRT, was using my L7T diagrams for reference.

so to hit the targeted 400RMS for the 2ohm enclosure it’s gonna be more difficult, the Kicker KX series seems the only one that does that at 2ohms, otherwise it’s 300RMS or 500RMS

 

It’s easy, and no I did not have an issue with the kicker screws.
I got the front 6x9 and rear 6.75 from crutchfield and they provided free harnesses and adapters!

You can always turn an amp down. Just because it CAN play 600w RMS doesn’t mean you have to pump that much power into your sub.
For a budget, there are tons of options. I’ve got the $150 Kenwood KAC-511 in my wife’s car. The $200 alpine s-type is good.

you need an actual 8awg OFC kit. Stinger, Kicker, KnuKonceptz, NVX. It needs to say 8awg (not 8 gauge) and it needs to say 100% OFC

I’m not a fan of used. You never know how people used and abused their stuff. Could’ve been played too hard, could’ve been under the seat and got coke spilled on it, could’ve had an RCA input damaged, all sorts of stuff.

for refurb, it depends on where it’s from.
Direct from the manufacturer or from Crutchfield, sure. From anybody else, no. and just because it says “factory refurbished” doesn’t say WHO’s factory.

 

I hear you loud and clear, I feel the same way about used amps, I found a referb KX from HiFiSoundConnection but wasn’t sure if it was worth it

Do the tweeter speakers in the OP's original post fit 2nd gens? Looking to upgrade my sound in my 2012 TRD Sport. I have the OEM JBL speakers right now. Still worth upgrading?

Is there a similar thread for upgrading the JBL Premium 2020 trucks?

I want to remove the factory subwoofer Double Cab OR 2020 and reclaim the large passenger cubby space. So if one of you are removing that, I would be interested in it.
I would like to put a sub somewhere else, and relocate the Amp, so that I get that space back.

Are there any known speaker upgrades that work well with this system? I thought I had read a good thread on it, but now I am just finding non-jbl threads.
I intend to sound deaden.

I don't need anything crazy, primarily I just want the space behind the rear seat back.

 

Why wouldn't any 6 3/4 work? Not sure which in particular you are referencing as being OOS. I used these and they fit fine.
