18 gauge would be fine, as you will be using short lengths for this mod.

@Smar969905 do you or anyone else for that matter have any pics of how and where they mounted their relay bases?

    @Bogg
Do you happen to have any pics of how and where you mounted the relay bases for this mod? Thanks.

Anyone have any suggestions or pics of where they mounted/ set their relays? Looking to do the 2 relays with bases and having a hard time finding ways to mount the bases without them rattling around all the time.

Here are the pics I took when I did the 2Lo mod. Used zap straps around the relays to hold them onto the bases so when I'm wheeling and daily driving there is no chance they can wiggle out of the bases. I zap strapped the whole contraption to a wiring loom/harness behind the glove box. Hope these pics help out.

Found these on Amazon. Nice solid base, have a retention clip for relays. Would recommend searching and purchasing a section of DIN rail( got mine off of ebay)

    Can't wait to start!
First off thanks to all that contributed info on here, I added this to my manual truck and it will come in handy. I did things a little different so thought I'd share.
I found a 4PDT relay an Amazon making the setup a bit more compact.
    https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07CG5BM4S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It came with an aluminum rail which I mounted to a bolt just behind a small panel on the right of the dash.

I placed the switch where it would be near the 4WD selector and visible when driving. There's nothing behind this panel.

Lastly for +12V I connected to the purple wire on the other 4WD ECU connector. This appears to be a switched power feed, if anyone thinks this is wrong please let me know.

Glad I stumbled across this thread, just finished building my harness tonight. Just waiting on my switch to show up to install it.
I ordered dpdt relays off Amazon and the switch from ch4x4.

Just stumbled upon this thread. So cool!

I totally get the desire when towing, especially in reverse. But I've also wanted to be able to choose 2lo when coming down a steep forest service road with switchbacks on multiple occasions (to help lighten up on brake usage).

If I understand the OPs instructions you need to:
    1. Start from 2hi
    2. Engage the new 2lo switch
    3. Switch the stock selector to 4hi
    4. In neutral, switch stock selector to 4lo.
Do I have that right? Then reverse the above to return to 2hi?

That's right, and if you want to go back to 4LO you need to return to 2HI, flip the 2LO switch off, then go back to 4LO.
