CorrosionX frame

Has anyone tried corrosionX HD on their frame? I'm thinking about doing some preventative action on my 2015. After seeing so how bad it could potentially get I'm going to hose that frame down. They claim it won't affect the color, eat plastic or brake lines. And they say it won't burn off on exhaust causing a smell due to overspray if there is any. They said dirt may lightly stick to it but it washes right off without affecting the product. Sounds a lot better than having a permanently gross looking frame in a few years. I read somewhere about someone doing a taco frame with it but can not find it again. Stuff seems legit. Even NASA uses it, as well as several military and aviation companies.

appears quite durable for washing off , but it takes much effort to remove if needed

 

Y'all have the part number of the CorrosionX you are using? I'm curious about this...

This type of Corrosion X conforms to MIL-SPEC MIL-PRF-16173 Grade 4. Soft, tack-free, thinner brown coating. Used widely on Navy/Marine Corps aircraft as a corrosion prevention compound.

 

I've used CorrosionX Aviation for years, though it is not something I would use as a long term protectant/inhibitor for a automobile or truck exterior as it washes off too easily. I used the Aviation formula for the interior of aluminum structures, especially where they were attached to steel parts. The company makes quality products so I would assume the other formula is good stuff. CRC makes a "heavy duty corrosion inhibitor" that goes on wet, dries quickly to a tacky surface and ultimately turns into a hard coating without any stickiness to it. It comes off easily with acetone, and I think alcohol would take it off, too. I wonder how it compares to the CorrosionX formula you are referring to.

Side note: CorrosionX company makes a product called "RejeX" and I like to describe it as kind of like a Rain-X for paint and metal. It seals it and makes washing bugs and other sticky stuff off much easier. We used this on the leading edges and noses of wings and fuselages at my shop. After a few flights it was common to have a layer of bugs on those surfaces and rinse with the hose and a microfiber cloth would wipe them right off even after being baked in the sun. I use it on the front of my vehicles with similar results. It doesn't last forever so if you wait a month it may not help much but if you keep up with the bugs one a week or more and reapply every so often it makes cleaning easier and your paint less likely to etch from bug guts.

How does this stuff go on and dry? Does it stay sticky or tacky forever or does it harden completely after some time? Any color to it?

 

it stays tacky and IS messy and black to the touch after road grime has accumulated, i've had it on for about six months now but am trying to remove it to replace failed taco primer / peeling paint
if i remember the dripping from application was minimal, it did drip some

will that apply onto chrome bumpers and plastic front pieces easily?

 

I put it on painted plastic. I think it might make flat finish plastic dull/chalky looking but I've never tried. It should also be good on chrome.
