Do you know of anything similar for a 3rd gen?

Because of the curved back surface of the 3rd gen tailgate, nobody makes a tailgate cap that will fold down over the back, not even Toyota.

Love the tailgate cap! Solid. Only issue is the coating scratched easily. What can be used to touch up scratches?

I ended up taking mine to Line-X. the original powder coat was terrible, I finally jut bit the bullet and for $65 the thing is perfect. Mine is the steel model. I think I got the second generation of "the new guy doing the powder coat is great and the old guy was awful". I didn't like having to do it but nothing else has seemed to work. I was always pleased with everything except the coating.

Ok thanks. that's a good idea, just a pain in the ass. Maybe I'll try to coat myself.

Same issue here. Did you have a lot of rust prior to the Line-X? I assume the Line-X vendor will clean/prep first, but not sure if mine is in too bad of shape.

I had several bubbling places on the body of the thing with two of them about 2inch by 3 inch places that the bubbles had become full fledged rust spots.and the edges were getting pretty bad. I am assuming the job was done right with a solid preparation. It has been fine so far - around six months I think. Our Line-X has a good reputation here. I am glad I did it.

I need to take mine to line-x as well. The design and fit are top notch, but the powder coat sucks.

I think I’m going to go back to the stock plastic until I get around to having it sand blasted and lined. What’s the best way to get the gasket off and does anyone have he part number for the plastic inserts that the bolts go into?

ARE cap, wade inchannel vent visors, weathertec floor mats, ranch hand grill guard, tuffy security boxes in bed, lockable tailgate handle. Still have stuff that needs to be installed and still have stuff ordered lol.
interested if smaller gap the large gap will interfere with the back glass on my ARE cap bottom part is pretty much flush

Is $100 really the best you can do to ship to Canada?

Got mine in the mail. For whatever reason my gasket is two different lengths. So I'm just cutting up the gasket and trying to space it out evenly.

Edit. Can you please PM me. My tail gate cap isn't new and someone covered up some scratches with a sharpie!

As you can see this was an attempt to cover up some damage to the cap.

I’d hit it with spray paint and move along. Memory serves me correctly they have always had problems with powder coat.
