Is there any harm in removing the front driveshaft/diff/axles and drive the truck around?

Yes. Without the outer CV stubs, the wheel bearings can fall apart.

Buy a pair of halfshafts, dissect off the CV stubs, put them in the hubs and tighten the nut.

Don't start until you can finish.

    Have someone else do it.

Have something else on hand to drive, put the garage stuff in the bed to access.

    Always options.

Thanks a lot man. I have some junk cvs laying around. Do they come apart or do I have to cut the cvs?

I have a 3rd gen Tacoma and a 20 Camry...I’m not worried about something else to drive

Also I’d rather work on it myself

The birfield side isn't meant to be disassembled, so in order to make stubs/blanks you have to cut some things up to make it happen. Other than there there isnt any downside, I've been having a lot of issues on my front drive train and have done exactly what you're talking about several times now.

Remove the driveshaft from the transfer case and use a CV stub shaft in the hubs to hold them together and you will be ok.

Can confirm, I cross threaded an axle nut once and that alone caused my wheel bearing to fail ~300 miles later.

I has solution. Buy cheap wheel bearings and outer seal. Send em to me. I press in 2wd hubs. I send complete assemblies to you. You remove front diff, and all associated stuff. Install 2wd wheel bearings, and good.

That would work but I have a set of cv’s laying around that I can just chop and install into my hubs

Let me know if you change your mind. I can also send you 2wd hubs with bolts for you to press yourself.

I cut mine too short so it doesn't get a perfect seal around the birfield stub, if you do go that route make sure you don't make the same mistake.
