Prerunner to 4x4 Conversion

These are the only 2 that I took. The tc shifter comes out right under the shifter assembly so I fabbed up something to bring up to the side of it and up out of the coin slot. Shifter assembly lost one of its mounting points but 3 bolts to hold it on was good enough.

 

What did you use to seal the floor? Im thinking im going to use some aluminum plate and sound deadening material.

 

I used a shifter boot from autozone and sealed the edges with what we call in mechanics world "Dum Dum" which is that black sticky rope used for windshields then covered it with aluminum AC duct tape.

 

Hubs and CVs officially ordered, built front diff ordered from ECGS, and all other parts are at my house. Just need to scoop the rear DS from a buddy and I should be good to go!

Did you do a locker?

 

No sir. I do fine 95% of the time with my 2wd. decided a locker would be overkill. I am still torn on twin stick though

 

I still have those bolts. I even have them in a padded envelope with your name and address on them. I just keep forgetting to grab them. I just texted my wife and told her to make sure I put them in my truck tonight.

I have basically everything now except a y pipe, which we may just modify mine the day of the install

Sub’d. I’ve been working on mine for a few months but wife just had baby #2 so things are on hold. Got the whole front end installed in April/May and collecting parts since. Hope to get it done this summer.

 

Go for it. I did my conversion a year ago, but I went with the 4runner transfer case.
For those doing the ADD delete, I though that system comes with full time 4X4 FJ. Won't it make steering to hard went 4X4 is not engaged?

 

Nope. You can try it. Engage the front diff without shifting into 4x4.

 

It’s still an open diff so it’ll allow the two tires to travel different distances without resistance.
