Nice build, and nice jack stand storage. Are you a B-2 guy?

Only as a civilian. My former employer does a lot of work on that platform and the guys I worked with kind of adopted that shape as our logo. When I moved on, my buddy machined that plaque and all of my guys signed it. I miss those dudes!

Even as old as it’s getting, it’s still one of the most impressive pieces of engineering I’ve ever come across. I’m very proud that I was able to contribute to helping it continue to perform its mission.

Awesome. It's an incredible machine, and I'm glad it's ours. Haven't seen one in person yet, but look forward to the day that I do!

Holy shit, I can’t believe I haven’t updated my build since May

Sadly, the truck and all of my truck projects have been taking a back seat to house projects. It isn’t exactly how I wanted to be spending my time, but we’ve done some pretty amazing shit to get this place the way we want it. Part of that has been working on my shop office, or as the kids and my lady call it, The Man Cave.

I know it isn’t truck related, but I’m still excited about how this is turning out. I’m almost done with framing in the double walls and the rough opening for the door. I put a new high efficiency sliding window in to replace the old ass barn window the previous owner had in the room and I also framed in an opening for a window AC so I can be nice and comfy in the summer time. Once framing is done, the wiring, insulation, drywall, paint and finish will go pretty quickly.

I can’t wait until I can actually use the space!

    :headbang:

    Aaaaaaaanyway... back to truck stuff.

Yesterday I decided to take a break from the office build to pull the spacers off the truck so I can say I actually did something with the truck :D

I’ve been running 2.5 total backspacing pretty much ever since I tubbed and went to 315s, but while it kept me off the frame except for some very slight rubbing at full lock, I never really liked the tire poke and subsequent mud spray. On top of that, I’m pretty sure my driver side wheel bearing is starting to shit itself, so it was time to pull my 1” spacers.

I’m already wishing I would have done this much sooner. There’s a pretty good chance that the extra leverage had something to do with me bending an axle flange in the rear. Oh well. Better late than never

The man cave is fuggin sweeeeeeeet!

I'll be the hater here and advocate for the low/wide look. But if it saves you from having to replace wheel bearings for a bit, worth it.

    Thanks, Mike!

I’m not gonna lie and say that I hated the look before, but that along with the mitigation of frame rub were really the only advantages. (I know TW loves to hate on Jeeps, but I guess there was enough Jeep Guy in me to find it visually appealing despite all the accompanying functional drawbacks :p). Here’s to only seeing that kind of tire poke after swapping to a solid axle someday :D

    Thanks, Austin!

One of the things I’m most looking forward to with the man cave is having a place to play guitar and bass without pissing everyone off.

    :headbang:

The bearings were definitely the deciding factor to finally pull the spacers. My driver side was starting to groan quite a bit going around right turns, and I really don’t want to deal with a failure at what would probably be the least opportune time. I’m keeping an eye out for a decent set of spindles that I can strip, gusset, and put new bearings in so that I can do the same thing on my stock set and then have some spares.

As much as i'd like to go to 315's the width is just so much.
Even with 3.5 BS F5's I was surprised to hear that you still rubbed the frame at full lock. Wish there was a skinnier 35 available for a 16" rim.

315s are to wide. (sorry Jason)

Doesn't help you with 16s, but I'm tempted to try the Kendas in 35x10.5r17

Otherwise I still think 285/75r17 is one of the best sizes for our trucks.

But I also liked the tire poke before with the spacers :p but I like that. 12.5s FTW!

Yea when the time comes to go up in tire size, i'm gonna have to go up to 17's it looks like.

I agree on the 285/75r17 being ideal. A 10.5 wide 35 would be wild. Don't know anyone running that kinda size

    It’s such an individual thing!

I still love the 315s, but like Brett mentioned, I’m very interested in the Klever 35x10.50s since I went to the trouble of tubbing and all the dick pain that went with it. Sucks to have to jump up to 17s, but there are way more options in that size anyway.

This is why I’m interested in the Kenda Klever RT in 35x10.50 with a 17x8.5 -10 wheel. Less poke, slightly better clearance at the frame and slightly taller than my 315s.

    CB848289-B4CA-42F7-BD3F-F6130F150997.jpg

Or go with a 17x9 -38 wheel and get slightly less poke and have plenty of clearance to the frame.

    Me too.

There aren’t many people out there running them, so there isn’t a lot of real-world data that I’ve seen. At least not data that’s more on line with how I’d want to use them.

There’s a lot to like for me, though, including the D load rating.

If I were planning on staying with a 12.50 tire, I’d definitely consider them for that very reason. But I’d like to try a 35 skinny next and at least see what that’s like.

Ultimately, though, this is where I want to be as far as 12.50s go. Along with a SFA, of course

But that’s WAY the hell down the road.. 284519A6-C422-4BF7-B140-FCC9577CB640.jpg

12.5's all day. I love my tire width. I think you are in a perfect spot right now, I'd rock 3.5 BS wheels, it's only .25" less than my current width. My frame rub has never been a limiter and it probably keeps me from going full lock and putting the CV's at more risk when the fronts locked up to be honest.
