    The friction modifier is needed with dino oils in the Mustang traction-lock clutched limited slip differential--it makes the oil "slipperier" to prevent the LSD clutch plates from binding. FM is usually not needed, or recommended, with synthetic gear oils (even with clutched LSDs) as they are inherently more "slippery" than dino juice.

    In a non-clutched differential it is never needed.

    A trick we used to pull was to use only a couple ounces of FM, instead of the 4 oz recommended, to make the traction-lock "lock" more firmly--guys running strip only cars used none...

    Wow. Didn't know that. Thanks! I was wondering why I never needed friction modifier in the stang. So most of you guys probably just use Mobil 1 or Redline in the diff. Just a drain and fill every 30k?

    Yah no need to add a friction modifier on your 2015. 30k intervals are a good benchmark to meet. I tow and haul quite a bit and haven’t felt the need to do it any earlier.

    I am coming up on 90k miles and figured I had to do something other than an oil change, I just realized I don't think I have ever done a rear diff oil change... Is there something I should do extra or just change it ASAP?

    Just change the fluid.
    And see if you have zerks on the u-joints. If so, grease them.
