not quite, they do frequent Travis and have a small presence but are based from Tinker. I spent a lot of time at Travis between 2012-16.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
I just see it most every time I look out on the line. I always sit here and wait for someone to call asking if there is anyone smart enough to fix a 135. Easiest plane to work on

Non-conventional jobs to have before you become a pilot or afterwards? If after, it really just depends on what you like to do. I’d say bush flying in Alaska is “non-conventional.” Some other things that come to mind are fire bombing, crop dusting, seaplane island hopping, DEA, CIA, Border Patrol, government contracting...There are tons of pilot jobs that aren’t airlines or corporate.

In Alaska, you can build time flying the mail. I always wanted to be a bush pilot, but after living and flying a lot in Alaska, I don’t think so. If the weather is good, they’re flying. If the weather is not good, they’re probably flying. They work completely through hunting and fishing season, so if you like to hunt and fish, do it now. It’s a cool job, but a lot harder on the body than most imagine.

Bush flying in Alaska and Missionary Pilot (island hopping) are right up there on my dream to-do list and the reason I'm starting down this road.

Seems like getting your A&P is almost required to be competitive from what I'm hearing from friends up that way. Will continue research. Thanks!

Luckily my wife's family lives in the Pacific Islands so we are hoping to weather hop at least once in a while but I don't doubt it's treacherous to fly up there with all the nasty weather. My bones might be too old to do that for too long. I'll actually be back in Alaska in a week so I'll be flying around for about a week with some amigos. If any of yall are near Wasilla/Palmer let me know!

Not sure if I posted this one here already. Hopefully I didn't. Spotted these two MV-22s on the ramp at USMC Mountain Warfare Training Center Pickle Meadow while heading east to the 395 on a recent trip.

I agree. I learned a ton teaching instrument and multi pilots. I noticed at my first airline job in training the guys who had only done VFR flying to build time had a bit harder time vs the guys who flew instruments and multi. The big struggle was V1 cuts. My sim partner and I were both MEI so losing an engine was no big deal but the guys who hadn't taught multi tended to struggle with it a bit.

This is where having CFII experience will help. In the last few years there has been unprecedented growth and pilots where showing up to their first jet job (for a 121 regional with paying passengers behind them) with marginal instrument or multi skills. Some of these pilots had never flown an approach to minimums or even gone missed before. Down right scary really.
