No worries. Mine is still a work in progress, i will post pics and info when I am finally done. I have gone down quite a rabbit hole. I can't wait to have a bit more time to figure out how to get videos to play while driving. My end result will be this head unit, Focal Utopia TBM tweeters in fabricated sails, Utopia Wm 3.5 mids in dash (have to dremel a little), Audio Frog gb60s in front doors, Helix DSP Ultra, Mosconi pro 5/30 and 4/10, and a 10" 10tw3 D4. Hardware mounted on amp board next to sub box behind seats, made by Mr Marv. Not to mention my suspension comes in next week. Jeez i need more time.

Can someone who uses CarPlay with the Maestro share their wallet card? I'd like to see how everyone is programming their steering wheel buttons.

I have everything hooked up as it should be but I also have a bypass wired in. The wired bypass never did anything so I did the software bypass. I only briefly tested it with a YouTube yesterday so I can’t comment on the keyboard yet.

Well I know for sure if u install the 3 pulse bypass available on Amazon, and leave the vss wire and go’s antenna disconnected it will for sure play video while driving. This is how mine is now. People are also reporting by doing a certain timed press will turn on a software bypass, which is what I’m asking details on. Hopefully someone will take the time to read entire questions. I know a lot of us just skim over a bunch of these posts. If u have any questions feel free to PM me.

Ok cool thanks. I had mine exactly like yours before doing the bypass. After reading about disconnecting the vss and gps antenna I went that route leaving the wired bypass installed. I am able to access all video but it gives me one warning each time I turn the truck on (gps antenna disconnected attach the antenna). Just want to make sure everything still works if I pull it out again and reconnect the gps and vss wire. It’s good to know that u left the bypass installed and were still able to do the software bypass. I tried the software bypass and could not get it to work, so I figure it is looking for the gps antenna. Lol we will get this figured out completely some day!

I wired in the bypass when I first installed and the work around with the vss & gps disconnected was found afterwards. I’m lazy and never did it but when someone posted the software bypass I did that. It wasn’t difficult and got it on the first try. You’re probably right about needed those wires connected.

I did not make any changes. I left it as is. I’ve already grown used to the stupid buttons being backwards from any other type of vehicle. Lol

Yes I can. I was “listening” to a YouTube video while driving.

The only APP available to use internet is the browser app. This and any kind of video input such as hdmi, are the only way to truly test if the system will allow video in motion. So if you use the pioneer browser and go to youtube and try to watch a video while driving, it will either allow it to keep playing, or go to a black screen with a warning message stating it prohibited. I don't know of a way to watch video through the carplay. Also he said "Listened" , meaning yes it does allow video to play while moving.

Ok, let me be more specific. The head unit is capable of playing youtube video, while the truck is in motion. I have all wires connected (GPS, and I tapped into the actual VSS wire (pin 17 on the 28 pin connector) of the truck, as my Maestro unit was always late providing the VSS signal). I used the software bypass as described in the youtube video here:

    https://youtu.be/M4g97WW5OB8

    - Location information is correct when I start the truck and connect my iPhone. I don't have to wait. I have not tried the keyboard input while in motion. Over the years I have gotten used to using Siri for this, and it works very well for me.
    - I don't receive any error messages at all.

Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it! Also when doing the software bypass, when u are doing the second 10 seconds on the right side, do u hold until (set on) comes up or do u let go after 10 seconds and it comes up? Tried it a few times with no luck. However my vss and gps antenna are disconnected.

10 seconds left, let go, then touch the right hand side until SET ON shows, let go.

took me two tries to get it right. Use a stopwatch !
    The video above is accurate.

Talking strictly about the GPS lag. Your GPS is using your phone. If you have any kind of powersave mode or something like that on whenever you turn the screen off it stops using the GPS. I know we had this problem with my wife's phone in her Crosstrek. There are some settings you can fiddle with on the phone to allow the maps apps to still use GPS with the screen off, but I don't remember them off the top of my head.

Thank you. I got it first try this time. I didn't even reconnect the gps antenna or vss wire. Just want to see if it acts any differently. Thanks again

Finished my install about a week ago now. Just wanted to thank @svermilyea for all the insight/ info he provided for me through PM. Getting the screen flush was tedious however most definitely possible with some time and patience. My biggest drawback was the pink wire missing from the Pioneer harness. Pioneer shipped me out a new one and I just ended up removing the pin and inserting it in the already wired harness. However once this was complete I would still get erroneous "speed signal not connected' messages. After talking with the folks at Maestro a tech rep suggested bypassing their products all together for the speed signal (pink) and parking brake (light green) wires and tapping right off the 28 pin connector. I know this was previously mentioned in a post, but I have to say, for any first time installers this was not a terrible task. If I were to do it again I would probably end up spending more time reviewing this thread than the actual install. I would have to imagine 99.9% of all the info you need is in this thread. With that said I have only two concerns regarding this install:

When I am on a call the other end sounds somewhat muffled. I can make out what they are saying but definitely not clear. Anyone else experience this?

What is the 'proper' way to tether for the browser? Carplay off on the phone? bluetooth off? plugged in through USB? I have gotten it to work but sometimes my phone will show the head unit connected to my phone but the browser says " no internet connection"

    Thank you all!

Thanks. Ill continue to look. I moved the waze and google maps app as an exception to screen time. I think I need to make my (Home) not set as home. So weird. Like this morning i opened waze from my phone hit (work) and it gives me directions right away. Plug it into carplay, and it shows the highlighted route. Start driving and on the carplay screen it does not move until I have driven for around 8 minutes. When I leave work and do the same thing, it starts moving right away. Probably is something with the phone, but is weird. Ive always used it like this. Even with my last pioneer it started moving right away every time.

The VSS wiring issue is weird. Mine worked fine connected to the maestro, and without warnings not being connected at all. However i do have the wired in bypass. Maybe the deck senses that the brake is on so it does not look for vehicle speed. I also have the gps antenna unplugged and receive a warning 1 time every time i turn the vehicle on to (Attach gps antenna) I do believe, not positive, that u just have to connect the unit to your phones hotspot to use the browser. If you set up sites through AVassist, it will bring those up first in a visual app looking form to select when the browser first opens. To use AVassist, more has to be connected. Glad you are up and rolling!
