As @JoeCOVA has stated, Toyota got burned bad with the FJ. After the first couple years, they barely sold any. It was discontinued for good reason at the time. They’d have to decide they want to go for round 2. Maybe they will?

I know that ford dumps an insane amount of effort into the RD for the EcoBoost lineup, wagering that FI will be around in the markets. By the rumor mill running around toyota maybe in the same direction.

Also I don't think toyota is into the competition game. They don't seem to make a vehicle and gun for another. That being said, they already have quite the lineup internationally so maybe a few tweaks can bring FJ to north American market again

Oh there will be some mods all right
I've read that several times. In your opinion, why does the 2.7 seem faster than the 3.5?

If Toyota really wants a piece of the North America “off road enthusiast” market, they should bring Us a new model from the prestigious “Land Cruiser” namesake, that is actually intended to be rugged, and somewhat affordable and capable. The FJ was always kinda a fake. Not that it wasn’t a great vehicle for what it was, but it didn’t have the balls to be truly a part of the Land Cruiser line up. We need a North American
approved, off road specific, land cruiser. Not that plush wagon thing they sell for $100k, and not those insanely ugly (ugliest vehicle ever actually) Lexus 4x4s either. A real land cruiser.

The 3.5L may have a higher top speed, for all I know, and maybe beat the 2.7L in the 1/4 mile drag, but the 3.5EB does not punch you in the back the way the 2.7L does. The throttle response on the small boosted V6 is a joy. Around town, it is a fun drive. I have heard it’s because the turbos are smaller, and spool up faster.

Hmm, that's funny. Instinct says bigger motor=faster. I'll have to give a truck with the 2.7 a try.

They are a good option. I believe if you are a person who wants to tow, that’s where the downside is. The 2.7Ls don’t have the towing of the larger motors. Other than that, I’ve experienced no downside. Our fleet has nine F150s in it and a couple Rangers and a couple F350s. All good, reliable vehicles. Never had one let me down. Not too many recalls either. Would not trade my Toyota for a New Ranger for a number of reasons, and the full size are too big for my personal needs, but solid vehicles that have my respect.

    Prado?

Honestly though, the Prado is basically a GX. They're pretty tough, but not on the level with the Bronco. Toyota would have to go back to the drawing board to really compete here.

And I totally agree about the FJ. People keep bringing it up as if it could hang with this new Bronco, or a Wrangler. It wouldn't. They were neat looking, but mechanically just a slightly shorter 4runner. My 4runner is pretty badass, but it surely won't hang with a Rubicon or this new Bronco.

Ford just came out with a brand new large V8 so they are not history just yet.

Hummers suck offroad. They get stuck all the time, shit turning radius. Trust me man, I’ve been there, drove them etc. Seeing one offroad is a real treat.

You can buy low mileage surplus hummers for like $5k and you know what..no one does lol

Pretty sure that's not going in the Bronco... but I could certainly be wrong. Not very informed on Ford's activities.

Yeah they definitely wont be shoehorning a 7.3 V8 into a Bronco, aftermarket maybe though.

If you haven't driven a smaller displacement forced induction motor, don't judge it until you try it. I bet the TT 2.7 will be very sufficient. They design the turbos usually on the smaller side to spool super low which creates an awesome torque curve up to around 3k. With the right turbo setup, you get the right hit of low torque and a solid HP climb to redline.

For anyone interested, I will say that I have built a 400+BHP 2.3L Mazda MZR with turbo in an AWD Mazdaspeed6. This motor was the predecessor to the Ecoboost when Ford and Mazda were in bed together. It was very finicky once I started modifying it. So, for anyone interested, I would recommend leaving the motor bone stock and enjoying it for what it is.

Yeah. I guess the government committee that designed them probably had some fellas from Ridgeline World on the board. I’m surprised they are not unibody.

Ford is going to sell a million of these I bet. Hopefully see less rubicons everywhere. Legit the only reasons I didn't buy a rubi was the terrible shitty interior from 1995 and the huge overpricing.
