Hello I have a 97 4cyl Tacoma 5 spd. I have no mods on my truck but would like to start my build with some headers but I have no idea what to look for or what to get. All I know is that a buddy of mine suggested that stainless steel is the way to go. please help!thanks!

    i believe it’s a 2.4 L

You have a 4 cylinder, so you will only get 1 header.

With that said, our 4 cylinders have great torque running factory exhaust.

The headache of trying to get the computer to accept the header is really not worth it.

The extra power of a header won't be noticed until you are above 4000 rpm. I can't remember the last time I saw 4000 rpm.

Our trucks are pretty well engineered from the factory. Give it some thought before you start working with the emission system (the exhaust is part of the emission system).

If you are in a state that requires emission testing, you are most likely not gonna pass.

Give it some thought and don't be afraid to ask questions. We got some pretty bright peeps on this site.

Thanks a lot for the information! Do you know where I could start to possibly push out any more power out of my truck or what I could get ?

I put an ebay long tube. It was about $100, I noticed a substantial increase in power all the way across the board. I am on 33x12.5 and 4.10 gears. There is also a high flow cat, so I have a constant check engine light. The exhaust note is much better and has a deep growl.

I'm running a Doug's Headers ceramic coated nickle finish header on my Supercharged 4cyl

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
The newer stock manifolds (01-04) are also a known upgrade. Won’t be as drastic as a nice set of tri y headers though

I have Doug Thorley long tube header and there was a tiny bit of increase in acceleration, nothing worth paying a few hundred for. I got a K&N intake and there was a noticeable increase in acceleration in the butt dyno.

Check LC Engineering out, they have everything you're looking for.

Have you tried the o2 simulator? Supposed to give a false reading to keep the CEL off

I need to look into that. I tried an o2 extension for the and it only prolonged the light coming on.

The header I bought was from DNA motoring and was only $100 but it fit perfectly and doesnt leak
