I'm curious...which way do the trees up near the Alabama state line lean? I know in Georgia they lean towards Alabama and Florida. :D

I haven’t been near the Alabama line recently...but where there are trees left standing here they’re mostly leaning south lol

Hahaha. I love being back on the beach. I'm just glad to be back in my home state. Also a lot better than my previous duty station. Middle of no where Missouri gets old in about 2 weeks.

So what do you guys think about the new Bronco? While I'm disappointed that it doesn't have a solid front axle and both engine options are turbo charged gasoline powered, I think they pretty much nailed it as a ligit off-road machine. The coolest part which is probably going to be the hardest version to get is they have the Sasquatch package with all the off-road goodies available for the base model. Plus the serious off-road package comes stock on 35s. It's pretty much a turn-key off-road machine. I'm talking literally driving right off the lot and running Hardrock with it.

I was ready to be disappointed with some limp prick offering that would take thousands of dollars to even be about to keep up with a stock Taco like the new Ranger is, but between Jeep and the Bronco, Toyota is going to have to step up their game if they want to keep their share of the off-road market. I think the JL still had the Bronco beat if only because of the solid front axle and the different engine options, including a diesel, but you still need to armor up a Jeep before any serious off-roading. The Bronco comes armored.

Disappointed about no solid axle as well and no option for the 5.0, but overall I really like it. I wouldn’t buy one myself, especially in the first model year. Toyota has been left in the dust many years ago, and they need to do some catching up in order to keep up with this and even the Jeep offerings (even though I hate the gladiators and jeeps in general).

They've kinda kept in the game because of people that hate Jeeps. Toyota was the only real alternative. Now there's another option, which, depending on how it takes off, might have the Toyota engineers scrambling on making some real changes to the 4th gen Taco and 6th gen T4R if they want to keep their market share. Maybe they'll even bring back the FJ-40 in some form. That would be ridiculously cool.

As far as the new Bronco, while no solid front axle pretty much sucks, at least, from what I understand, it's a long travel IFS with CVs that are presumably engineered to hold up to 35s with a locker. If that's the case, then you might be able to get it up to 37s with some degree of confidence in the reliability. With the engine, I'd like to see the 3.0L turbo diesel they are putting in the F150s as an option.

We'll see how well they take off though. I'm hoping for a grand slam so Toyota is pressured to build us a turn-key wheeler with more focus on capability than electronic gadgets. I think the JL is still the top dog though with the solid axle and all the drivetrain options.

I really hate the way dealers operate these days. Back in the day, you could go in to a dealership and order a truck with anything you wanted on it and nothing you didn't and they'd build it to your specs right on the assembly line. Now you're lucky if you get to choose your color and still get the options package that has what you want in it (along with a bunch of crap you could live without).

I feel the same. That front diff on it should hold up to some punishment though. I am excited about that crawler gear from factory as well as the 4.7 tcase. Not sure if I'd buy one or keep working on the 3rd gen sitting in the garage.

I’m excited for a granny low. Something I never thought I’d hear again. I’m actually going to give it a year or two and trade my challenger in on one. Base model of course, I don’t need a Sasquatch because ain’t no way in hell in financing tires for 5 years. The 5.0 engine is massive and for how small the bronco looks, would take a lot of work to fit. The 2.7 in my wife’s truck routinely gets 24-26 mpg and can tow close to 10k lbs. A 5.0 would be cool but completely unnecessary. Idk how many of you guys worked on dohc v8’s in cramped engine bays, but it’s not fun.

Yeah, but you also get all the other good shit with the Sasquatch package...rock sliders, winch-ready steel front bumper, selectable lockers. It's not just bigger tires.

I'm just not a fan of turbos for off-road unless they are on a diesel. I bet the fuel economy with that 3.0L turbo diesel would be insane.

I’m going to be in the minority here with the new Bronco I think. I’m not bothered by the lack of a solid axel one bit. Better road manners then a Jeep? Yes please. No death wobble, sounds good to me. I’m also not a hardcore off roader. I go off road occasionally but usually with a purpose. When I’m hunting or servicing property or things of that sort. Overall I think the Bronco is going to appeal to a lot of people who want an off road capable vehicle with some civility.

I can get on board with this too. It will be fantastic for the casual off-roading type that just wants to buy and go. I’ll take anything that drives better than a Jeep
