Stock leafs beginning to flatten with blocks

Is this common y’all? My blocks have only been on since November and I’m noticing they’re flattening out. What leaf pack provides 2” if lift to replace the blocks, Heavy Dakar’s. I need to upgrade

 

Go mediums. Heavy if you're gonna leave a constant weight in the back while DD

 

X2 Dakar medium. If you need more, can upgrade to the heavy by adding a leaf.

 

You are going flat because you are riding on a big ol' block under it. Remove the block and your next pack will fare you a much MUCH longer service life.

 

Deaver 1.5” - 2” aal or 3 leaf aal

 

How is a block different than the factory spring perch?

 

There is more force against it because it’s higher than the stock geometry.

 

Even without blocks it will sag.

 

Go cheap and get an AAL.

 

Eventually, yes. If he has been towing with it then I could see how it would flatten quickly but he has a 2018 and those should come with the 4 leaf TSB pack. The factory leafs are really not as bad as the internet claims them to be. This site has a tendency to blow things out of proportion because of how small of a community we are in the grand scale of overall ownership. Sort of like the 05/06 head gasket issues.

Fact of the matter is I have the OE TSB leafs still with over 125K miles on them and wheeled the nuts off them for the first 70K miles. They are not sagging but granted I have a 3 leaf mini pack made by Deavers supporting them as well for a natural lift. I didn't run a crappy block lift on them.

 

If the weight doesn't change then the force on the springs doesn't change.

 

I'm starting to see TSB/Recall springs break, I've seen plenty of 4 leafs break and sag. Blocks don't accelerate this as much as the community makes it out.

I can start taking pics of tacomas sagging to the left every day I see one if you'd like.

I have seen them break as well. However, I'm thinking the ones that have had leafs breaking have also had to deal with excessive rust conditions. Just an idea off the top of my head as to why that could be happening. That as well as overarcing of the springs due to axle wrap which was prevalent even on my own from day one. AAL immediately solved that.

In short, I think the major solution to the TSB leaf packs to prevent breakage is to install a mini pack 3 leaf AAL (as long as they still have some arc in them the flat ones can't be saved, nor should they be) and that will suffice in strength increase for years to come to the majority. I've had mine installed for 6 years now and the only issues I've ever had with the packs now is that the retaining pins broke. The mini pack AAL increases the amount of overall leafs if you retain the overload from 4 to 7 leafs.
