Tie rods OEM vs Aftermarket

Pretty sure my inner is starting to need replacement and not sure if dealer price is worth it.
Any brands to stay away from?

NAPA is $98 for inner and dealer is $303 lol

well they have 2nd gen...just not sure if they are the same on 3rd gen.

 

local dealer are retarded lol.

the other day I was there I asked for a price on an OEM one and they said $303, now when I called to ask for the actual part number the first number they gave me was an outer tie rod and when I told the guy on the phone that he said 'there is no part number we don't sell the inner tie rods, its sold as a whole unit with the rack and pinion'

same fucking dealer that yesterday gave me a price when I was there picking up my tcase oil.

But ya I've found on a few sites that the parts are the same.

 

I'm looking to change mine. Originally posted about it according to dealer it's my whole rack that's worn at 58k km. But three independent shops one being a steering shop say it's just a worn inner tie rod. It's the joint is making a clunking sound when shaking the wheel.

Dealer is pushing it to corporate to see if they will warranty the rack (claiming lift of course is the reason it failed)

A tie rod failure I understand with offroad use, bigger tires and lift.

I'd much rather just replace the tie rod than deal with them being idiots

 

Toyota doesn't sell inner tire rods, it's not serviced that way. The first parts guy made a mistake and quoted you the outers, it happens. The rack with the inners is the only way Toyota sells it. If you can get warranty do it that way. Tell them to make sure the alignment is included in the warranty

 

Outers are cheaper. And you can find the part online. It's just weird the way they're doing it.

There's a part number for the inners and you can get them from parts sites. But dealer apparently won't sell them on their own

 

It's just not Toyota. Chrysler does the same thing with many of their models. Your under warranty so just go have it done and your lucky they are willing to do it considering your lift

They originally said no but it's the same dealer I bought it from so the sales manager told the service manager push it through to corporate. Let them decide. He doesn't want to be the one to say no.

 

Moog is kind of crappy though. But if it's the same as 2nd Gen I might get those low range ones

Just came across this thread, I'm having to replace my inner tie rods but would like to order the low range ones if the 2nd gen factory inners are the same part number as the third gen factory inners... wonder if anyone here with a 3rd gen has pulled the trigger on them !? Might just get them and test them out and if they don't work out then sell them. Let me know!

 

So 2nd gen inner tie rod factory part number is 45503-09520. The 3rd gen factory part number is 45503-09550. What's the difference?

 

The Long Range Offroad are "555 Sankei".
