If I just needed a trail gun and didnt already have the Milwaukee batteries, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. seriously, zipping lugs on and off trailside is so easy. Now if only they made an quicker way to drop the spare. Impact made quick work of these when a buddies rally-roo slashed a sidewall. Just had to finish them by hand.

Installed the my extended wheel studs today and seated em using the new impact and man what a huge improvement over my 3/8" drive electric and my 1/2" drive air impacts. Got it done in a few seconds compared to a few minutes with the others.

I think you’d be perfect fine with any of the three. M18 is a good middle of the road impact. If funds aren’t an issue, go for the fuel impact and standard M18 for all the others. In reality, as long as you’re not breaking lugs, the M12 will suit your needs too. I’ve run 1/2 lag bolts in the roof with my M12. The M18 will run them a bit deeper but everything is still solid with just the M12.

I actually prefer my M12 Fuel impact to my M18 Fuel impact for most tasks.

Put up 200 ft of fencing a few weeks ago, and driving 3” screws into 4x4 posts.. my M12 Fuel was getting them in faster than my buddy’s 18V or 20V Hilti impact and my battery lasted longer.

I use the M12 Fuel daily and have for a year and a half or so now.

If or when I use mine on lugs, it will just be to finish taking them in or off. I also don’t have an impact wrench and likely won’t ever. The impact driver does what I need. That’s why I specified driver in my initial answer to the OP. Honestly unless you’re a mechanic, I don’t see the need for the impact wrench. More power to those that have and use them, just unnecessary IMO.

Good point though, hope he caught that distinction.

I always use torque sticks when putting lug nuts back on with an impact, especially on forged or cast wheels.

I'm thinking I'll look into the M12 for some smaller tools, and then get several tools in either M18 or Makita or DeWalt.

If you're referring to me, I did not catch the distinction. I'll do some research and see which I actually need. I never gave much thought to the distinction between an Impact wrench, driver, or gun. Thought they were just different terms for the same thing.

I use an impact gun/wrench/driver to break bolts loose, and then depending on the torque spec, drive them back in until they make contact, then finish it with the torque wrench to spec.

That is one nice thing with the Milwaukee impact stuff. They have their three power levels (1, 2, 3) but also just have a like circle option. The circle option will run the bolt down till it hits resistance and only "hammers" once.

just looked it up, and realized I know what an Impact driver vs wrench/gun is. I'd probably get both an impact driver, and an impact wrench.
