Sounds like his financial advisor isn't doing a great job with the advising.

Fast foward last year I had a family friend that just purchased a 2018 Denali HD. We had agreed that if he ever bought a different truck that I would buy his 13 tacoma. Well the day finally came and I was ready. I asked him how much and he said just pay what he owes. Turns out it was $14.5k. I made sure to jump on that deal quick.

The truck was a 2013 trd sport 4x4 dclb with 120k miles. So eventually sold my 2009 for $14k (awesome toyota resale value) and the camper for a $1300. Basically was a wash after all said and done. I managed to gain a tacoma 4 years newer, a trd sport, 4x4, and 50k less miles plus made an extra $1300 off the shell.

Here's the day it came home. You can see my other tacoma in the background.

I feel like I got a hell of a deal. 2009 Access Cab 4wd, 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual. 1 owner, 137,000 miles. Got it for $7700. Needed nothing.

A good Friend of mine is sales manager at a local dealership, got it as a trade in, and sold it to me for a minimal profit.

I picked up my ‘13 limited 4x4 w/ towing package at 105k miles two years ago for $14K. Got a good deal as my dad bought a F150 Lariat.

Picked up my '14 DCLB Limited last February (2019) for about $22,500 US with 18,500k miles on it. Genuinely owned by an elderly gentleman whose family traded it into the dealer when he couldn't drive any more (checked the p.o. address on google earth and there it was in his driveway at the seniors complex). Never winter driven. Not a mark anywhere on it. Perfectly clean underneath. Dealer that originally sold it sold him added all the extra stuff he could find. WeatherTechs, paint protection, tonneau etc, etc. Wasn't in the market at the time but it was too nice to pass up. Had the frame splooge done last month and the tech (whom I've known for years) told me it was the first one he'd done that the frame was already clean on the inside. I figure this should be the last truck I'll need to buy, with any luck :).

    Cheers.

I was the same way, it had been a couple of years since last really getting deep into an engine - I was looking forward to it as well. But I will take a win anyway I can.

It cost you whatever you paid the dealership. Just because your uncle gave you the money, doesn’t mean it didn’t cost you anything. You could have used that money for anything, that’s $50k less in your pocket. I wouldn’t call that free by any means.

Going for a certified truck definitely adds to the price tag, but the warranty is well worth it in my opinion. I wanted to be covered in case multi-thousand-dollar repairs were needed, as was often the case with my prior vehicle (POS '04 F150). Thankfully, Toyotas aren't really known for being irredeemable garbage, so I haven't had to cash in.

And an AC overhaul. Refrigerant doesn’t ever need to be added unless it leaks out. If you needed to add, you’ll find it leaks out again. When depends on how small the leak is.

I got my 2011 TX TRD DCSB Prerunner in 2017 for $12,500. Had 72k miles at time of purchase. Only issue I have had was replaced an ignition coil.

Umm yes it did. You were given money. Money you could save or spend. You bought a truck leaving you with less money. It certainly cost you money. How is this hard to understand?

    None yet.
I have a 2014 SCLB 4x4. I bought it from my brother for $10K, one owner 43,000 miles when I got it, about 44,500 now. It has no options, all base model 4x4, well except for the slightly larger tires now.

"Bought" implies you paid something for it.

So tell me more about this financial advisor.
