Unless you are up, dressed and armed you won’t have time to respond to a typical smash & grab.

And sadly most places these days even if you take the criminal to the police with video nothing is going to happen.

see, thats what pisses me off. I routinely drive hundreds of miles for work through the middle of nowhere on short notice, in multiple states, and do heavy vehicle recovery. So my truck has tools for both getting myself out of a tight spot, helping others, and providing emergency medical aid just in case. Thats a lot to haul and restage literally every day that I go into work from a hotel room.

I'm looking into the vehicle cage options, cameras, and cell phone alerts. It should be a while before I pass through that shithole again, so theres time to make substantial fixes.

Reminds me of this guy in New York City who parked his car with a note it that said "no stereo", he came back to it later and found his window broken and and another note left on it that said "get one"

That's sad man. Sorry to hear that. My current truck doesn't have a security alarm, I wish it did so I'm currently looking into one. The truck is prewired which I hope will make the upgrade a bit cheaper.

Ive taken a few steps to protect my truck in the meantime:

I replaced any/all exposed screws that mount things like tail lights, tailgate equipment etc with tamper proof torx screws.

I have Chris's ATD and a pop and lock for the tailgate.

I have 10% on the front windows and %5 on the rear. I put up my sun shield everytime I park so that it's extremely hard to see in.

I also have a dash cam that has two cameras on it with the option of 24/7 recording, vibration/motion detection and alerts.

I always try to park in the open, under a light and near high foot traffic areas.

I always try not to leave things in eye shot but of course if someone has decided to rob you... They'll do it.

Best of luck to you in the future my friend :)

    Edit: saw these awhile back.

Caging your vehicle up can be a safety issue. Doors tend to not work after accidents. I hate thieves too, but I would steer away from bars over the windows personally.

Hmm... get the biggest lift and monster tires.

they’ll never be able to peek in those windows without a step stool unless they’re Sasquatch tall.

I was thinking permanent install over rear windows, and figuring out a latch system for the front ones that could be snapped in when parked. it would take some tinkering, but that way they wouldnt present an escape hazard while operating the truck.

Don't leave anything valuable in it and leave it unlocked. They are getting in anyway. This way they don't do any damage. Even with bars over the window it isn't hard to open the door with a screwdriver and a hammer. It will cost less to repair the broken window than body damage to the door. BTDT.

The trick is to make your stuff a harder target than the neighbor's stuff. Thieves don't want to spend time defeating anti-theft measures. They are smash & grab.

So make your stuff hard to get. Yes, keep the cab naked empty. Get a steel JobBox. Bolt it to the bed of the truck. Lock it using the biggest hairiest ass lock you can find. Think 1/2-5/8" hardened shackle.

NONE of this will prevent a break-in. But it should make your stuff a hard target and something else as much easier.

The police didn't attend??????????????? WTF? Don't you have some sort of state oversight agency with whom you can file a complaint?

I subscribe to the "keep my vehicle empty" approach. I try to never leave anything where it can be seen so the "smash & grab" criminals will look in, then keep walking.

If I do Christmas shopping some place like a mall and want to put some stuff in the trunk (of my car), I'll pull out of my parking space and drive towards the mall exit, but continue around to the other side of the mall to park again. Hopefully the people who saw me put stuff in the truck think I left, and the people who see me pull up will think I just arrived.

Remember there are plenty of "easy targets" out there, so don't make it easy for the criminals to steal your stuff.

Get a really heavy duty tool box that bolts to the bed, or a heavy lock box that fits on the back seat and cable lock it to the frame under the seat.
Big heavy shackle or circle locks and 1/2 in cable. It would take a grinder or torch to get through those locks or cable. That would take them some time.
The meth heads around here eye ball my stuff, but they don't bother Fking with it. I caught one pulling on my door handle, i asked him if it was worth having a broken neck. (I think he told the others and they all avoid me now) Also, i leave my trash and wrappers all in my truck so it looks shitty

    Most thieves don't carry tools.

Large bolt cutter, grinder, torch, BFH......
