A few days ago gain looking for access to a lake that does not want me to find a way in. Clear now that it is hike-in only. Loaded up my 40 pound pack and did a long hike in, and did not get close. The first pic is as close as I could get in hiking. Not quite what you would call a trail.... Steep, thick and brutal horseflies and mosquitos. Used half a bottle of bug repellent that day.

Truck has a bunch of pretty bad scratches from trying to drive in a couple miles on a bad ATV trail. Those are the 3rd and 4th pics, pretty narrow going and a mile in reverse uphill. Not good.

Up on the logging road hit a 4 foot deep washout going 30 mph. Turned my head to look into the valley and BAM. Front wheels airborne coming out of that and the back end exploded. Just about went over the side of a cliff. Amazingly only damage to skid plates. To get close to this lake you have to drive 30 of those washouts in, and then same going back. All are bumper draggers. Just took my eye off the road for a second and almost broke my jaw from gritting my teeth so hard. What a wake up call.

This is third time trying to get to this lake. Have taken every trail now so there is no road access. Looks like south end of lake is best for a hike in, north end I hiked in is too steep and long. Next time have to take my belly boat and hike in.

Yes it is great and I don't take it for granted. I've always done this though. When we lived in Coquitlam and Vancouver, I would go out every weekend in spring, summer and Fall. Winter too for winter steelhead fishing and such. Doing this for 35 years now, and on my 4th 4x4 now. Our yearly vacations were typically up around Merritt, Kamloops, and farther north around 100 Mile House and such. Always at a lake, fishing and camping. 90% of the time in backcountry, alone.

My wife would come on the trips when there was a cabin to stay in or a nice campground. Rare that I go to such spots as I prefer the solitude of nature. She does not come on these trips much anymore as she finds it too rough going now as I head further out each time. The last time she tented with me we had a bear check out the tent while we slept, and that was it for her tenting outings. We were pretty remote on that trip too.

I'm addicted to nature and remote wilderness. The truck is just a tool to get closer to that.

Unfortunately with my job, I have to work every other saturday. One weekend i get 3 day off and 1 weekend only 1 day off. So basically we can do stuff only every other weekend. But my parents own a rental property and guess who does most of the work all year long:D Beautiful place in Britannia beach though, I love coming there. The drive alone is exhilarating for me, haha. Love the MT and the how the Sport suspension handles in curves.

Thankfully my wife doesnt mind sleeping in tents so far and we go to Harisson lake when we can. Next time i want to go to Chilliwack lake, went exporing last month and found some cool spots. True story, towed out honda accord with 4 kids that tried to go farther up the FSR. Towed them about 5 km. People driving by were looking at them and laughing haha!

I love being out in the nature. IMO thats where human beings are meant to be. I feel at most peace when im out there without anybody around, well except for the better half, ha! I wish i was a better fisherman too, as i kind of suck. Not very experienced. Went out fishing maybe 20 times in my life and I am in my early thirties.

I really would like have more time to go out and explore the beautiful paces we have here in BC. It will come soon, i hope:)

    Keep it man!

Awesome. You are on the right track. Yes, I am also most at peace in the wilderness, which is why I go so often. In n our early days, getting out meant I had to go to spots that my wife would tolerate. Still 4x4 access, but a little more reachable. She does not like to go out much anymore, so most of the trips are just me. You do have to be prepared though. I am shocked when I see guys far out in the backwoods, with no food, no emergency gear, no tools for a breakdown, etc. You can't fix every problem that comes up in a remote setting, but at least you can have a chance if you are prepared.

    Have fun!

Oh, this area I was at is up above Pennask Lake Provincial park. You can see there are a bunch of lakes up there. About 5 are easily accessible, the others a bitch to get into. Once you get past the easy access lakes, you will see no one. Even Pennask which is a Provincial park still requires 4x4 to get in. The road is absolute crap. Has not improved in 30 years. There is also an older road in as well that is a big danger to your vehicle. I drove that a few weeks ago, not taking that one again. There are tons of areas in BC like this that are just dotted with hundreds of lakes. A lot of exploring and much of it can be done alone and never seeing another person or truck for days.

My wife and I had our side-by-side up there a couple of weeks ago. We saw a few tacos out on the trail. The trails were a lot of fun, but man I would be sweating bullets taking my truck on those. It’s a pretty cool place with some awesome views. Did you stay at the campground?

This was up at Hungry Valley OHV Park in California. This is a state run 4x4 area with easy-black diamond tracks and many camping sites. Lots of fun! Costs $5 to get in for the day. If you live in SoCal and can get up near Fraiser Park check it out.
