I don’t know about 1995-1997, but my 1998 has it. I was a PreRunner too so it wasn’t wired to anything.

The best thing people can do is to try to remove all emotion from purchasing decisions.

Just drain the emotion out of the purchase and look at it as $A (purchase price) plus $B (restoration expense for extended reliability) = $C (Total Purchase Expense) / (expected service life in years) to meet basic transportation or recreational enjoyment need.

Example: $2,600 purchase price + $5,000 DIY restoration cost = $7,600 total cost / 10 (expected service life after restoration) is $760 a year for basic transportation or recreational vehicle enjoyment. Salvage value gained from sale at the end of the 10-year run if sold would lower the annual expense. But the feel-good part is to not use any expected gain from sale at the end of the cycle in the cost estimate.

Looking back over the past 10 years of old vehicle purchases and restorations, the average buy price is $1,800 with an average restoration expense of $5,500. Usually, the ones with a low restoration cost are the first ones sold and don't make it through the expected lifecycle.

The 100 series purchase cost was $3,500. However, it will have the highest restoration cost and is expected to have a 15-year service life either with me or one of the kids. Nothing about it makes economic sense because it's supporting a recreational hobby.

The trick to buying low in an individual sale is to be nice when working with a seller so they like you and want the vehicle to go you because they know you will treat it right. Sure there are some sellers who don't care. But there are people who do have some emotion about who they would like to see take ownership of the vehicle. That's where you can get the best deals. I've seen some pristine vehicles in California exchange hands for $1 just because the original owner wanted the car to another club member who he knew would properly care for it.

One of the most extreme cases that I've seen of owners immortalizing themselves through their cars happens with rare antiques. I attended a 4-day annual club meet for owners of the car brand in the picture. There was a guy there who brought one of the cars to the on a flatbed diesel truck. The guy driving the truck was a caretaker. It turns out the owner had owned the car for over 40 years and had been attending the club meets for that amount of time.

At the point when he became very old and knew his life was ending, he established a trust fund for the car (like a one-vehicle museum) that pays a caretaker to keep it maintained and to take it to the annual club meets. I remember people talking about how Harry's car was one of the best lookers at the meet. When I asked about Harry, I was told he had died 3 years earlier and how the car has a caretaker and is being brought to the meets so the other owners would keep his memory alive.

This was my first real exposure to eccentric classic car owners.

There’s a massive abandoned bowling alley (size of a Costco) in my city that burned down last night. Could see the smoke from three cities away.

The Spanish dialect I got into likes to drop endings in s and z. Rodreguez pronounced Rodregue and Hernandes/Hernandez pronounced ernande.

 

That's borderline Cuban right there.

My dads spanish dialect is a tad similar, but no rolling of the R's (Puerto Rican); sometimes ignoring it altogether

 

Yuuuuup finally closure on this missfire haha! Ordered a denso one to advanced auto and gonna swap tn when the sun drops. Another 90 gone but at least this should be the end for a while hopefully
