3.4L TRD Supercharger rebuild

dont think so. I spun it by hand. Seemed to roll just fine. I’m wondering if it something to do with the bypass valve or the restrictor jet in the hose.

It’s odd that it will only make a noise coming off of boost intermittently.

 

Remove the restrictor jet and see what happens then.

Bypass valve have a leak that’s making noise in the diaphragm ?

EGR backing plate leaking and causing a sound there?
Definitely sounds odd

 

Well. It’s a strong possibility it’s the rotor pack. I was under the hood and gave it a good rev and it made the noise pretty loud. But only once. Any rev after that sounded like it has since installing new. maybe the rotors are slipping out of spec sometimes and contacting.

Pulling the rotor pack out this weekend to inspect.

what do you do about the flaking coating on the rotors them self? do you remove it all together or send it out to get re coated?

 

Send them out to be recoated, the coating creates a better seal and heat protection.

 

Anybody that had used a hammer and socket how much force does it take to tap the bearings out?

I’m wondering how stupid it would be to tap them out with the housing installed.

If anyone has used a bearing puller how much grief did they give you?

Also, speaking with HighSpeedLab they mentioned that the needle bearings are recessed a bit to a spec. Did anyone follow this?

No worries, not the first time that has happened lol.

My PoS is supercharged too, but it's a 2.7 - I can't help much there regarding the 3.4

When reinstalling the rotors, do you have to time them and shim them to spec? If so, how does one do that? (this is for a 2nd gen sc that was pulled apart when it was perfectly fine and bearings were untouched)

How did you end up removing the needle bearings?
Press or blind puller?

How did you install the needle bearings?

Do you press the needle bearings until flush in the back or?
Or freeze method?

 

I pressed them out with my shop press and pressed the new ones in flush

 

Does anyone know where I can find this bolt? Or what the specs of it are? Bought a used SC and is missing. Thanks

 

Try calling Magnuson they might sell it separately or tell you where to find it

So I’m guessing this is not good. What would cause the coating to peel off? Just from use? Can this be rebuilt? Cost? Thanks!!

 

That’s the thermal heat coacting that is applied to the rotors.

It’s extra protection from heat and also helps seal in the rotor gap to the side wall.

The coating just wears from time.

You can have the rotors recoated maybe 200 or so depending

 

Would it run crappy like this? Bought this used and previous owner said it ran great. Also anyone you’d recommend? High speed labs? Thanks
