Just born, pickup late August, Australian Shepard and wiener dog mix. This will be the first dog that we’ve had, had two cats previously.

The puppy is away at boarding school :). Hes about 6 months old and he's not trained... we adopted him last month, that explains why lol. We were told residential (boarding) training would be the best option so we went with it. He'll be back in 15ish days.

Just so you know, dogs that do board training do pretty well BUT can come home with a lack of potty training. Trust me, there are other things they do if they are kenneled for long periods.

Hopefully, you will come back for training periodically and they will help you understand some of the, um, challenges.

Dogs can sometimes un-learn peeing where they sleep. If they're taken out to potty, this doesn't usually happen. They can also become shit slingers-there is no other way to describe it-because kennels are not cleaned quickly enough. Both things are hard to break.

I talked to the trainer about that, he says the dog will only be in the kennel for crate training purposes and throughout the night. The puppy will be the only dog at his house for the the next 2 weeks as well. He works from home, so most of the attention will be on the puppy. When the puppy comes back, the trainer will come over everyday and will teach us how to stay consistent with the training. The whole process lasts 5 weeks and they have very good reviews with residential training.
Edit: We sent over our dog kennel, the dog food he usually eats, his food/water bowls, the bed he sleeps on, and his toys he plays with so it feel natural to him.

That's awesome. A lot of board training facilities have runs divided into indoor and outdoor sections. Cool that yours will be done "at home".

Trying to cool off under the ceiling fan after playing outside. Heat and humidity are not your friend when you have a permanent fur coat on.
