New Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX flush mount install

Hi, the VSS wire issue is actually a common issue. It is also described in the Maestro forum, where the Maestro tech also recommends to use the actual vehicle VSS wire (pin 17 on the 28 pin connector).

 

Does anyone that has installed this have any pics of their wiring harness that you ended up with. I have the diagram from Maestro and the radio but a visual pic would be helpful. Appreciate any help.

 

The colors literally match on both harness. I found the install diagram extremely easy to follow.

 

Your right. The more I read through this and look at what I have it seems pretty straight forward. One question I haven’t answered yet is what do I do with this blue wire on the antenna adapter?

 

It ties into the amp remote wire. Blue w/white stripe coming from the pioneer harness.

 

If you don’t connect it you’ll figure out that you won’t be able to listen to terrestrial radio. Ask me how I know. lol

I only listen to SXM or Apple Radio and figured it out when I tried to set regular radio stations.

 

I got everything hooked up on the 6600NEX but I'm having a hard time with the iDatalink Maestro. Anybody have an issue where you can't change tracks using the steering wheel controls in Android Auto? The preset buttons on the steering wheels don't do anything. I've tried reflashing the maestro a bunch of times and there doesn't seem to be any combination that will let you go to the next song. The seek button just seems to keep repeating and doesn't do much. The seek/preset buttons on the maestro seem to be jacked up. Anybody having any luck with this? Thanks

 

They all work on my truck.
Did the buttons all work with your factory HU ?
Check if the connectors are all seated fully.

 

I am curious if the Toyota Connect Remote Start app requires the OEM head unit in order to work? Has anyone with a 2020 Tacoma confirmed this after changing head units. I am guessing they are completely different components, but you do originally register the service through the head unit at setup.

Update. Confirmed the Toyota Connect App (remote start, unlock/lock) work perfectly fine after replacing the head unit.

 

I think all of us that have installed this unit have 16-19 Tacoma’s. We’ll see if someone chimes in. Good question

 

It is the only three way connection in the harness, you connect it to the other two blue wires to make a three way connection.

 

Yeah they worked perfectly with the OEM JBL unit. Weird I can't figure it out. I'll check the connections like you said.

 

Ok, 100% finishing this up today. I have just about everything finished.

I installed the front Natika camera, and noticed that it gets noticeably hot while the car is off - everything is grounded and wired correctly. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

As for the degree of heat, its not extreme - its more warm to the touch. Obviously it's still getting power from the battery when the truck is off - but what (and this is an ignorant question so forgive me) is the recommended solution here?

(ps - the head unit I received as a replacement already has always on cameras working - backup/front, etc)

 

Check how you wired it. From what your description says, I think you have it connected to continuous 12 V the entire time.

I used the anytime camera mod, and I wired it such, so that the front facing camera only receives power when it is actually in use. That kit comes with a physical switch, wiring and relay. I have it plugged in between the factory harness and the Maestro kit.

 

I have a question. I am looking into cleaning up my messy wires under the hood.. If I am going to run the Deep Sea additional fuse panel, do I also need to buy a circuit breaker or can I just run the Deep Sea additional fuse panel by itself hook up to the car battery?

 

I don’t use a fuse or a breaker since it is right next to the battery. Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea, but I don’t anticipate any issues

 

that’s what everyone hopes....also the ones who see their car or truck on fire parked on the shoulder of the freeway, caused by a short circuit.

Sorry you feel that way. My friend’s truck burned down last weekend, because he took a shortcut. He was not happy.

 

Yea that would suck. All I am saying is if you have a better idea or some knowledge to share, all of us including myself would love to hear it. I am more than willing to take advice or good information and incorporate it into my vehicle and help others with it. There is a tap rule for not using another fuse based off of amperage, gauge and length. I thought I would be safe by only having a 8” lead to the block. If I am incorrect I would love the help. I definitely don’t want to damage my own truck or give anyone bad information. I am more than open to ideas. Just saying it is better to offer help and knowledge than make comments that don’t supply any ideas or help. Just want to help people also. Thanks
