I drove older cheaper cars when I did delivery. It's a lot different than the driving you probably did. Yours was probably mostly highway. Delivery is city driving and lots of stopping. I was always doing them cars on many days off. I'm glad I don't do that and moved on to better jobs.

Your experience with the Tacoma sounds good not really any trouble at all.

I CAN JUSTIFY A NEW TRUCK BECAUSE I TRAVEL. I’ll get 16k trade in as is. My next truck will not be used for business travel. When you make 117k a year, it’s easier to play around some. Not to sound like a prick or anything. I’ll keep my next taco to 120k and toss it out. Looking forward to having the technology package

It’s dying. transmission is very questionable. I wouldn’t put a load behind it at all now... just doesn’t drive the same anymore. I’ve never pulled anything and have had serviced regularly

Thats a shame. 177k isn't that much if we're talking all highway.

Yeah, it started to go down hill around 165k... noticing valve cover leaking slightly as well. Trans just seems really off sync... it’s been babied. Highway miles, never pulled anything. It hesitates on starting more so than it used to as well. Rough cold idle... I’ve followed Toyota’s maintenance schedule and have done it all prematurely. Just disappointed. I’ll trade out from now on while still under warranty. I loved the truck. It’s just tired.

Haha! I’m old enough to remember when these leaks were normal on all cars! My 84 mustang leaked so badly, I added at least two quarts of oil before my oil change...... I won’t be happy with a leak, but I’m gonna be honest, I may be screwed.....with all of these cars I have owned that dont leak, I don’t check shit until I change the oil anymore :crapstorm:

I’ve been spoiled with the Tacoma

It is a big job. Either the engine and transmission must come out or they take apart the whole front end. I just had mine done here recently on a 2018 Tacoma TRD Offroad DCLB with 50,000. It is a known problem in the 3rd Generation Tacomas and well documented. Luckily, it was covered by warranty. Otherwise I would have also thought about punting it down the road.

@Madmax134 it sure does look like a big job. I see how they choose to get at yours. Probably that is the fastest way. Still if that's $4k it's good warranty covered it. Most people would not be cool so with that while making payments on the vehicle.

i watched alot of youtube fix videos of ford trucks 4.6 / 5.4 when shopping for a used truck and that picture reminds me of the crap they had to go through to fix common issues with cam phasers and plastic timing guides. Nice to see the same shit in the toyota.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
That is incredibly clean for 50k. No varnish to be found, guides look good; what is your OCI?

Are you disclosing the oil leak to the dealer you're trading it to?

My 2nd gen was pretty clapped out by 175,000mi but it was going on a decade by then.

I'm the type to keep a vehicle until it no longer makes sense and that's all I got out of it. Couldn't justify putting any more money into a truck with a rusty chassis, rusty cab floor, transmission issues and a very loud engine knock when cold. In the end I got good money for it on a trade in.

If you do trade in at 120k please take care of that truck To justify whatever it’ll cost the next owner.

Or you can do it yourself for the cost of the gasket and your time. Its a timing cover gasket for God's sakes. Screws, scrape, gasket sealant, gasket, same screws, tighten. Done. Do the timing chain and water pump while your down there.
