Im a registered Architect. Most careers in order to be successful require you to put in the hours. Its just the way of life. Any type of state/goverment work is your typical 8-5 M-F and you get alot of holidays. Pay isnt the highest but you can make decent money.

You’ll need stamina & the hours could be better, but being a male exotic dancer allows you to stay in excellent shape while making above average money.

Retired Army, currently a 15 year Civil Servant working at Fort Knox Range Operations. Yes, close to retiring from this too, and then will be a professional retiree, instead of just an amateur....

I play on my computer and work from home with no pants on with a company I’ve been with for 12 years.

    I’m still late everyday.

I second your motion. Currently no pants as I write this, just shorts and a classic ten+ year old BCG tee-shirt. Couldn't get much better at this point: Been working HARD at least 50 weeks a year for 50 years, at times three jobs, since I was fourteen, now THANKFUL to be a professional retiree larvae (June 2022). Until then, still earning every penny, making it happen daily, by offering solicited recommendations to help people and businesses manage their unrecognized risk, on a part-time schedule from this desk in my air-conditioned garage world headquarters, all while wearing only fishing clothes bought from Academy, and Walmart (Just the underwear and socks from there though). Business attire means I zip the pants legs back on my Magellan hiking shorts. Tacoma sits right on the other side of this desk, loves its 68-degree bedroom. Making more money now just sitting here in my garage talking on the phone helping people while watching fishing, baseball and motor sports than I did when I was a surgical rep. In between calls I get to call my own meetings in my back yard where I hand-feed corn to deer and iced oatmeal cookies to squirrels and blue-jays. Not hard to achieve an attentive quorum, even without donuts. What an absolutely surreal, blessed existence, admittedly undeserved. ZERO (0.00) business miles/year. No boss, no manager, no suspender-wearing brownie-nosing corporate suck-up geeks competing to see how many corporate-speak buzz words like wheelhouse, stakeholders and circle back they can use in a meeting [(I hate those little fucks), (and if you are one, BITE ME)] no meetings, no quotas, no sales goals, no quarterly sales pushes, no sensitivity training, just pre-retirement nirvana. Beyond all human understanding: Why does the Lord continue to so bless such a wretched soul? What hath God wrought?! THANKS LORD!

Pediatric Occupational Therapist. Great Job. I work in a hospital mainly with kids who have had spinal cord injuries or head injuries etc. Love the work. If you don't have a problem with blood, vents, etc it is very rewarding work.

Got my electrical degree, got my first job as an electrician in which i had to start as an apprentice, worked my way up to become a journeyman and then Foreman. Got an opportunity to work in the office doing some management work and field work (electrical) until i become a construction manager then moved to become a project manager, all in the electrical field. Been a project manager now for about 18 years.
If you like wiring and not afraid to electricity, this is a pretty good trade and pays well..

I work on industrial refrigeration machines; hospitals, manufacturing plants, data centers. Pretty good gig all things considered.

I’m a subway train operator. Yes it’s true people commit suicide by jumping in front of a train and yes I had two people end their lives by jumping in front of my train.

I’m a Certified Surgical First Assistant which means that I assist the surgeon during procedures with things like retracting, cauterizing, suturing, etc. We have a lot of autonomy and get to do a lot of the cosmetic repair of incisions an such.

Currently I work PRN because I am in Physician Assistant school. We have finished our first year already and a year and a half left. PAs get paid extremely well and have great job flexibility. I currently have the same scope of practice as a PA but I want to be more involved with the clinical side of patients also.

Do some research on this career because although it takes a lot of dedication, it is in the top 3 careers in the US for a reason.

Edit: I’m 42 years old so you are definitely in a great position to pursue something like this if you are interested in medicine. Let me know if you have any questions and I can point you in the right direction!

Marine Corps for 7 years, then worked at a plant that manufactured CD's, DVD's, and Blue Ray discs, plastics process technician. Saw the writing on the wall after working there 20 years and moved on to working as a civilian federal technician working on Air Force radars. I get to travel a lot for work. With my service time I'm looking at retiring in 5 years with 25 years of federal service.

That's what my wife is, started off as a baker...hard early hours and shitty pay. One day i picked her up from work and said to her this: you're working shitty hours for shitty pay, how would you like to work shitty hours for great pay?...she was like, what do you have in mind?, i said how about a nurse ?...financially it was tough so she did distance LPN, got a college diploma...while working as a manager assistant baker. Then our son was born, she enrolled in the RN...also distance bridging program, got her BSN degree, then she took another two years...distance education again...and now she's one out of just 300 RN's in Canada with triple specialty (wounds, ostomy and incontinence). She's extremely happy with her Monday to Friday, day hours job, her own office too. She now does consultations and other nurses follow her recommendations...I'm in the HVAC industry...thank God we are doing well, unfortunately we know people that struggle and didn't think education was a big deal...it is . I'd recommend anything in medical field...RN's in Western Canada can easily do $150000 to $200000...with overtime...down the road she's planning on getting her Masters...

Where I'm at if you can get on at the electric company even as a laborer on the right of way clearing its the best paying job around. Most of the guys working there build the biggest houses around and have the best retirements. I work as a grower in a medical marijuana facility and to me its a good job for here. I have worked some hard manual labor jobs but I think a good work crew can make even the crappiest jobs better. Good luck young man.

I should have STAYED in the AF, lol...spent 5 1/2 years - got out in 1989. My son recently turned down an opportunity for the USAF Academy...KILLED me, but it's his choice. OP - I'm reading this thread as I'm trying to guide my son (and 2 daughters)...I have no idea other than not following in my footsteps (I make a nice (low) six figure living but am MISERABLE). I applaud you for seeking out advice - I have none that's specific to career. You are young...keep yourself debt free and not tied down (till you are set) and you'll have the option to change life direction on a dime. Good luck!

That's why I am sort of glad I work in education. Then thing about IT is almost every business needs computer systems be it a few and a small network for an office to a large corporate network. Education is not as crazy with hours and must be up 24/7 systems as other businesses are. No I don't have all summer off like the teachers do, but they do go away so we can get our work done replacing and updating things with far less people in.

Another thing I used to do when I first started working in the field was do support for a few small offices. I did work for a Dentist and a Chiropractor off and on when they needed extra help, set up networks, new computers and back ups. It wasn't something that was regular but making a few hundred dollars for a few hours work in cash was always good. Those I picked up by word of mouth too.
