Looking to make a custom fishing rod holder for my Gravel bike. I’m gonna make something that will clamp to the frame of the bike And then to the rod, do you think if I lined the inside of the clamp with the furry side of Velcro, it would protect the frame from any abrasions or scuffs? Clamp probably won’t have to go too tight as it’s a lightweight freshwater rod I’ll be transporting.

probably, but I’d recommend something hard like the all mountain style stickers or even some clear tape to wrap the clamp areas

Used to wrap chain stays with handlebar tape to protect with chain slap. Similar could work here.

What @jmauvais said, some sort of clear protection. I have a Reyr collapsible fly rod and it fits in my revelate bag. If you have a small bag to keep it all together you could ski straps

I’ve got the old RF pad and have had no issues with scratches. But one of the buckles did break when tightening it after about a year...so that one just gets tied now.

That would definitely help to double down on protection. Thank you!

I don’t hAve a collapsible rod or else I would look at that type of option. However I’ve been wanting to pick up a bag to go under the top tube.
Thanks for this. I didn’t even think of it and I think this might be the best option. I don’t think I’ll even have to bother with the Velcro part if I go this route.

Tenkara. All you need easily fits in or strapped to most any pack (hip or backpack).

Was going to say the same thing. Tenkara is the shiz for portability and ease of use, as long as you're fishing streams.

    Check out this crazy Brookie.

    She’s a beaut!!

Sadly your pic reminds me of how guilty I am of not using a quality net (or any net) as often as I should :anonymous:

Anybody have any good recommendations for a used bike in the 1.5-2k price range?

Im wanting to get a full suspension 27.5, mostly trail & downhill, any recommendations would be great.

where do you ride? Are you looking for short, mid, or longer travel? Trail bikes are usually in the 120-140 range, downhill like at bike parks are a bit more. Used market is pretty tough right now too. I ride a 150 rear 160 front and it does all I want it to do, to me it’s a happy medium.

I live about an hour away from China peaks id mostly be hitting those local trail there.

I was wanting something in the 160 range I wanted something a bit playful, Ive been looking used all over California but there hasn't been many options out there at the moment

Someone locally is selling a stumpjumper medium, 26inch wheels, 18 inch frame for $795, it seems really good priced to me but im not sure if the medium would suit me well or not (im 5''11) but im pretty novice to this so I dont know if it would be a good first bike.

I can say a lot of people start on stump jumpers. Kind of a strange phenomenon. The medium might be a little small for you, you’re probably right in the large range. How old is this stumpy? What kind of components? How about the fork/rear shock? Serviced recently? Well taken care of? I mean if you’re really focused on getting a bike right now, while everything is hard to come by, the stump jumper might be a good option. You can upgrade it later and even replace the frame when parts are more readily available. (Edit: 26” is dead... keep searching )

I ride a Santa Cruz Bronson. It’s 27.5 with a 160 fork and 150 rear shock. Playful, good pedaler, and soaks up the big hits.

Yeah I messaged the person and they didn't even know what year the bike is which I feel is a red flag unless he's really underpricing it.

Your type of spec is the type id definitely want to go with im just going to keep refreshing everyday for used bikes around California all the bikes online I was interested in are all sold out, seems like everyone started to get into MTB during quarantine lol

If the bike is 26”, it’s probably at least 7 or 8 years. I don’t know when the stump jumper moved up to the newer wheel size, but I’ll look in to it if I can.

another option is to call around local bike shops around you, they may have something that’ll suit your needs, but new. You can get a lower spec bike for the price point you’re looking for, and then upgrade parts as you outgrow them. You may not get exactly what you’re looking for, but it’ll be new and you’ll have the local bike shops support for repairs and such. Try giving them a call and see what you can find. I would even try looking up shops like an hour or more away, it’ll be a drive to get to but it’ll open up your options. I know my local shop has a bunch of stuff in stock but in way down in SoCal.

but everyone did start to mountain bike during quarantine, you are correct haha. Good news is that the used market will be flooded in a few months, if you can hold out that long.

a lot more people here than me too, I’m sure they will have more insight over what I can give you. I’m at work all night so I’m still around, they usually come around in the mornings.
