Galvanizing is just a zinc coating. It's not a miracle cure for rust. The coating is easily damaged. Also, it's toxic to welding or anything else that would burn the galvanizing.

Galvanizing done right is pretty bullet-proof. You can grind it off if ya need to weld on some sliders. etc.

I got the letter many months ago....maybe even late last year, stating the '11-'17 coverage. I have 2 years from the date of the letter to have them apply the CRC treatment in order to have the extended corrosion protection.

But I'm hesitate to take my '15 in. Every fall I apply Liquid Wrench rust inhibitor to all the critical places, including pumping the frame full of it in the cat areas. My frame looks great, inside and out. And my buddy's borescope tells me the inside of the boxed in areas look perfect.

Just concerned that this application won't be as good as what I'm doing. And if not done properly, could be worse.

Only takes me about 15 mins once a year to apply it and a few minutes after each winter to blow out the frame.

My state typically has fairly mild winters. I'm probably going to skip this.

I got the letter some time ago. I know it says 2 years from when notified but I can’t find the date of when I was notified. I don’t have the envelope, am I missing something?

I got my 2010 oiled every year since I bought it...they replaced the frame last year.

It’s a lanolin based undercoat made and sold by NH oil undercoating. It has very high reviews. The guy at the dealer even said so but told me that the frames on my year Tacoma were crap (2010). I got the frame replaced last summer and immediately got it under coated. They treat our roads here in NH with a very caustic and aggressive chloride solution. It’s even wreaking havoc with the steel in our bridges.

I'm moving to southern Missouri next fall. I hope my vehicles last longer there.

Hey out of curiosity, sorry to change subject but has anyone got enough trust on their third gen for a frame replace yet?

The 18 and newer ones have a cap/plug where there is an opening in the frame. It already comes sprayed with wax from the factory. 16 and 17 do not have the plug so when you bring it in they spray wax in there and install the plug

Interesting they left out Florida. We don't have harsh winters, but we do have coastal salt water flooding in some streets around the entire state.

The heavy duty corrosion inhibitor by CRC works pretty good. I have two cans for miscellaneous touch ups. Hood latch, brake faces etc.

Absolutely. Galvanizing isn't a miracle cure, but a properly galvanized frame would probably last 25-30 years driven in salt slinging states. Most the bitches you hear about galvanizing are from thin galvanized sheet metal.

Hey, guys. I am looking at what mostly seems like a cream puff 2017 Tacoma Access Cab 73" bed. It was a corporate lease held for 2-3 years and has a great carfax and the dealer is selling it as Toyota certified. It did live for 2 years on the coast in South Carolina. They did a video walk around. I saw a couple of things. I suppose I better aske them to do this on a lift so I can see what's underneath. Do this just look like surface stuff to you? That bootm image looks like some water settled inside._Under the rig.jpg_under the Rig 2.jpg

 That’s surface rust but that last photo of those welds would scare me.
Like you said it would be nice to see some photos with it on the lift.

I just emailed these guys--the rig is 2000 miles away--to ask about the Remedy notice, how it would apply. Why can't these guys just look at stuff like that and fix it before trying to pass it on? Without this thread, I would have never known there was a Remedy notice that might apply.
