I'm probably going to do an entire cab swap on this truck with another cab I find in a salvage yard:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/120558-cost-fix-worth.html
My question is this: If I swap the entire cab, including dash/doors that contain original VIN with a cab that obviously has a different VIN, the new VIN will not match whats on title with the original truck. (Long story short: Tha bank is still holding the title.......This truck was rolled WITHOUT insurance and my family is STILL paying on it....they tried to default on the loan but the bank threatened house/vehicles etc etc etc. until it was paid-off. So it still has a lien on it...and they're paying for a piece of crap in the yard that is not useable.....SO i've decided myself to at least get some use out of it by coming in as a 3rd party to do the fix and making it mine...with their consent)

Will this give me problems when I go to re-register the "resurected" truck with a different VIN??? I don't know how this all works, especially in this particular scenario....
ANyone have any answers for me please?? Would appreciate ALL THE HELP I CAN GET BEFORE I START DROPPING $$$$ INTO THIS RIG!!

    Thanks!

I would contact your local department of motor vehicles and ask them. I know there was a serious issue recently at classic car auctions where the VINs were removed for restoration purposes. Even though the VINs were reattached they made a big fuss over it.

Contact the local Sheriff or whomever you register your vehicle with, and explain what you're going to do. Ask them how to avoid hassles when someone registers it and gets it inspected, and the VINs might not match.

My guess is you document the purchase of the frame somehow, then maintain that paperwork with the title for the original truck...but that's just a guess.

If you go thru a rebuild that extensive you are going to have to apply for a salvage title imo.
That'll clear you from the mismatch VIN numbers....but I can't promise it'll be easy.

Is what Brunes says correct on the salvage? What is the process there? And would I need that for re-registration now????....or just when I get the title signed over to me later at the end of the lien period?

You really need to call your DMV.... Dont speak to some jobber at the counter either. The answers you need probably shouldnt come from an online forum.

Why didnt your family buy insurance on a vehilce worth 25k+? Even with basic collision it couldn't cost more than $500 a year.

City police handle it here. They do all title stuff other than standard sales. They actually inspect every pre standardized vin vehicle in person... Sucks. I would call them here. Its the detectives that do inspection station inspections and theft.
