ARB compressor wiring assistance

Hey everyone, can anybody help me with where the two small wires coming off the switch end of the harness plug Into? I believe ones a fuse and other is dash illumination?

Manual doesn’t say what they’re for?

 

Red/yellow is for ignition & blue/white for lights, however I can’t find anywhere under the dash to connect them. Wondering if anyone else has put the compressor in their first gen and knows a spot

 

If blue/white is for light illumination, splice into The illumination Wire for another switch like the ECT switch. Red/Yellow can be used on an existing fuse in the lower dash fuse box that’s on in ACC. As long as it’s low amperage.

 

Red/Yellow is 12V that'll be used to switch high side power to the relay to run the compressor. Blue/white is used to illuminate the switch. I used a fuse tap in my fuse box for ignition switched 12V for both. I cannot dim the backlight on my switches but I know that if the switch is lit it's ready to operate the compressor relay.

 

If it's just to trigger the relay any fuse in there should work good as long as it comes on with IGN or ACC.

I found where I can fuse tap it (have to to purchase one).

 

That's all you need to make it work. How you do the back light power is up to you.

 

So I added the fuse in however it still would not work!

I bought a voltage tester and it does not light up when put up against the first female adapter in the harness. I have the harness wired on battery and it tests positive for voltage at the compressor. I wonder if the negative isn’t spliced right in this harness

 

Take a picture of the wiring

 

That spot in your fuse box that's empty probably doesn't have 12V. Place it in another spot that you know has 12V with ignition on.

Also the fuse tap needs to be plugged in the right orientation.

 

I checked it with a meter it said 12, I have the fuse tap in wrong?

 

Also, you need to understand what you're trying to do. Use the wiring diagram provided by ARB.

You don't need any ground at the switch for the compressor to function. If the red with yellow has 12V and connects to the red wire, the compressor will run if the pressure switch senses manifold pressure below the threshold. That's all the switch is doing to run the compressor. The black wires and blue with white wire are not needed at the switch.

Use your tester to find the 12V side of a fuse in the fuse box, then orient the fuse tap so the current that goes to your new circuit only flows through your new fuse. It'll work.

 

I found a helpful video that helped me understand it along with tour explanation. My only question is if my fuse I pull out is a 10 for example should I use two 10 fuses in the tap?

 

You need to find what fuse rating you need for the circuit you're adding. You can't just put a random fuse and expect it to work, it has to be rated properly.

 

Have you consider making your own wiring? It's definitely a cleaner install and there's no extra wiring coil under the dash.
