I have the sway bar bumper and two 14" knobby tires with wheels. I just need all the rest of the things. :burp:

My boy and I are gonna build one next spring hopefully. It’ll be a good reason (excuse?) to pull the trigger on a tube bender

I am sure you can get a few sway bars from people out there. That would actually be pretty sweet! Swaybar chassis and cage.

@Martyinco / et al - Where's a good place to get eight 4x4's in 10-foot lengths? I'm assembling a pergola for the girlfriend with some fancy brackets she got that doesn't require any cutting of the wood (which I'm fine with since I already spent a lot of time building 5 raised beds...).
    • Should I get pressure treated? The wood enters these brackets 6" and is held in by 4 screws on each end of the timber. The feet will sit above ground.
    • What type of wood? The pressure treated redwood I saw at Home Depot is a bit too dark and the copper treatment left stains on some spots, so this isn't ideal).
    • Rough cut vs Smooth cut? I'm thinking smooth cut as we plan to leave the wood untreated/unpainted and it is a highly visible structure.
    • Kiln-dried vs green vs __ ? I'm thinking some dried variation to avoid cracking and splitting since this is a highly visible structure.
Here's a visual of what I'm assembling (shows how the vertical supports are surrounded by the "feet").

    That’s hilarious

A work buddy of mine built one from scratch out of round tubing and that thing RIPPED. It was almost a little scary how fast it was with that dinky 4-stroke engine.

The welder’s still going strong, but I haven’t laid down a single bead since we bought the new place. Too many damn projects!

    Rough sawn cedar

*edit* You couldn’t pay me enough money to build any outdoor structure with PT wood as the “focal” point, may last one summer, the second sun hits PT it will begin to crack, warp, split, cup, look like shit

Is rough sawn the same dimensionally?
IOW, will it fit in his brackets?

Hard to say, I know that Simpson Strong Tie all of those brackets that are similar to those come in two versions, rough sawn and dimensional.

These brackets measure 3.5" x 3.5" inside, so it seems they were designed for dimensional for really pretty marketing photos.

I'll call Rocky Mountain Forest Products in the morning and ask what they have. Since they are one step away from the mill, maybe it wouldn't be too cost prohibitive to get 8 "custom" timbers from them in a rough cut 3.5"x3.5".

They sell all sorts of cedar not just RS, they’ll have what you need. I’d just recommend staying away from the fence grade.

btw, the winch cable in the pic, is free to a good home, or a home of ill repute, doesn't matter. 85' 1/2" cable. Comes with brand new roller fairlead.

Don't you have an old lawnmower engine sitting around that you could fix up for this project?

It may have gone away. :anonymous: Carb was fubar anyway. Predator engine is much cheaper to deal with.

I will have to post some pictures of the shower in our new place. It’s very strange. A shower/shitter combo. One small tiled area with both. You take a shower and the toilet/toilet paper gets soaked. It’s such a shitty design.

Also it would negate the need for toilet paper... it's just an oversized bidet :notsure:

The house we are buying has the biggest bathtub I have ever seen. Practically a swimming pool for the kids.
