    Monday Discussion!

When/If I sell my truck, what do you think I should do?

    The Options:

    1. Nothing else, pocket the cash. Keep my 98 T4R, put some money into repairs/maintenance (probably between 1-2k necessary), and Amy's 06 T4R until we are in a new house.
    2. Sell my 98 T4R, and buy another vehicle (sub 10 grand vehicle).
    3. other suggestions?

My 98 needs some work. It has 302k miles on it, all suspension is clapped out, and it's just not comfortable to drive daily anymore. Amy's 06 is still very reliable and has no issues with like 230k miles.

yeah I'd probably just "rebuild" the entire front end with parts from rockauto.

edit: but that's putting money into it that doesn't increase it's value at all...I can sell it now for 2500-3k, or I can put all this into it and still sell it for 2500-3k lol

CLASSIC SUMMER WEATHER: This is the time of the year when our weather doesn’t change much. Days are hot and humid with a partly sunny sky, and during the peak of the daytime heating we see a handful of showers and thunderstorms in random, scattered locations. That will be the situation this week across Alabama; odds of any one spot getting wet this afternoon are around one in five, and mostly between 1:00 and 9:00 p.m.

Models suggest moisture will be a bit deeper tomorrow and Wednesday, with some increase in the number of showers and storms during the afternoon and evening hours, but they will still be scattered, and not everyone will see rain. Highs through the week will be mostly in the 93-97 degree range, with lows in the 70s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND AND NEXT WEEK: An upper ridge will remain in place across the southern U.S.. and the overall pattern just won’t change. Hot, humid days, a partly sunny sky, and “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. Highs will remain in the 90s, with lows in the 70s. Good ole summertime weather in Alabama. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Out in the deep tropics, a wave located more than 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing a small area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are expected to be marginally conducive for development of this system during the next few days while it moves westward at 10 to 15 mph over the tropical Atlantic. By Friday and over the weekend, conditions are forecast to become less favorable for tropical cyclone formation.

Closer to home, disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the central Bahamas, central Cuba, and adjacent Atlantic waters are associated with a tropical wave. Environmental conditions could become a little more conducive for development of this system over the Gulf of Mexico. This system is expected to move west-northwestward through the Straits of Florida today, over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico tomorrow, across the central Gulf on Wednesday, and reach the northwestern Gulf on Thursday. NHC gives this a 20 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm; one way or another it could bring beneficial rain to parts of Texas in five days or so. Most likely it remains south of Alabama and the Central Gulf Coast.

ON THIS DATE IN 1977: A flash flood hits Johnstown, Pennsylvania killing 84 people and causing millions of dollars in damages. This flood came 88 years after the infamous Great Flood of 1889 that killed more than 2,000 people in Johnstown.

ON THIS DATE IN 2005: Hurricane Emily made landfall in northern Mexico. When sustained winds reached 160 mph on the 16th, Emily became the strongest hurricane ever to form before August, breaking a record set by Hurricane Dennis just six days before. It was also the earliest Category 5 hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin, beating Hurricane Allen’s old record by nearly three weeks.

depends on how long you want to drive it I guess, the only good thing about your vehicle is it no longer depreciates. It's basically hit it's depreciating plateau

I don't want to drive it another day haha. I want something else, but that's not the logical answer.

My thinking is if I put 1-2k in the 4Runner, I could probably drive it another couple years, maybe, before it starts having true mechanical/drivetrain issues that I can't just easily solve. Simply based on it being a 1998 with over 300k miles.

If I do that, I could make it until we buy a NEW car (a T4R for Amy most likely) and then I can just take over driving her 06 T4R....but it's 2wd....and lame lol.

Or I could get me a vehicle in the 5k-7500$ range, sub 200k miles, reliable, and something I want to drive and it might last me a long time.

I like how you were sure to include "might" last a long time.

I say the new T4R for the wife and you get the old one.

can I be called an overlander if I start driving a 2wd? go down all the sick fire roads and get to sweet ass campsites I'll take photos of for the gram and then shred some gnar on my mountain bike.

    sounds legit

a Jeffsy? they're sweet. direct to consumer is neat...but if you have any issues ehhhh.

I'd still vote for a brand you can get from your LBS, or wait till this pandemic stuff dies down and everyone starts selling their new bikes for cheap lol

Probably wait for pandemic to be over honestly.

Also I did read about "if" you have issues it can be a pain with warranty work, I'd hope to catch a closeout deal on the YT outlet, unfortunately their all sold out too since they discount the bikes tremendously.

yeah everything everywhere is just sold out, it's honestly nuts.

I think you can land an amazing deal if you wait till the pandemic is over. used market will be flooded.
