You can mount the thing lower, where you can just slide into it at waist height. I like having shelter underneath. So, I use a rope ladder to get into the center hatch (versus the doors on each side). This is after I got it completely set up. I used a step ladder for setup and then my buddy used it to get into his 2 man Tentsile tent. He's a little older and appreciated the stability of the step-ladder. One night, after some bourbon, I would have liked the step ladder over the rope ladder. LOL

Weekend lake trip... Tacoma rides nice with 37's up front and 33's rear lol

Also, extremely happy with CASCADIA4X4 solar hood panel... used the heck out of my accessory battery and she was topped off before breakfast was over

Can you even put it in 4WD with the miss-matched tires front and rear?

I like mine, It wasnt the cheapest one out there but I've had it a 5 years now and its held up great. I also added the https://www.amazon.com/59516-Light-Railed-Cargo-Carrier/dp/B008L17JRC LED taillights to it for extra visibility and Ive been very pleased with those. Virtually no wobble. I can open the tailgate just barely not touching when its unloaded, but its like millimeters from resting on the carrier. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G4Z5J0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I think because its an elevated style one, its raised a couple inches more than normal and thats why its so close to the tailgate.

Lots of fun crawling up hills on a fire road with 2-4" of powdery dust on it as small car campers struggled to make it up the hill and had to turn back down.

Thanks for the info and the links. I like that the cargo carrier already has the cutouts to fit those lights, that's awesome.

No we decided not to bring the bikes this trip since we usually end up packing them in and then don't ride. We plan on doing dedicated riding trips since lately we've had a bunch of things planned. It was weird though there's literally next to nothing that shows up for trails on MTB project but saw plenty of bikes around and even a couple that rode past one of our camp sites. I think you need to either know the area well or get some good word-of-mouth info because everything I saw was just signs on Forest Service roads indicating where bikes were allowed. Hell Salsa named the Spearfish after the city so there's gotta be something good around there.

Oh I know, its really weird. I live in the Minneapolis area and just took a MTB road trip out to SLC/park city to ride with some friends and we couldn't find really anything in the black hills to ride other than in and around rapid city so we skipped it. I feel like the area has potential to have amazing trails and even a bike park but it must not be that popular in that area.

Spent 2 nights at Chambers Lake in Gifford Pinchot NF near Randle WA. Really liked the site, semi-dispersed w/ a pit toilet. I need to step up my anti-mosquito game though. Also Sub'd to Gaia GPS and used offline maps to navigate the forest roads, pretty killer app.
