no code but recently it stinks like propane after I pull it into the garage and there is a strong gasoline smell when filling the tank. It looks fun to access! but then again I'm not real good at technical things

 

The smell is probably from bad catalytic converter P0420.
Smelling raw gas at the pump is normal as long as you're not getting EVAP MIL codes previously mentioned in my last post.
Major drawback to not fixing CEL is not knowing what/when new codes occur. BUT you can use an OBD11 scan tool to diagnose and repair if you choose to.

aye, I've been putting gas in this truck for 17 years, it happens now during the fill process. ...actually someone else has, Oregon! but the smell is notoceable now

 

You stated CEL has been on for years, have you checked codes? If so what codes?

 

not in a year or so

 

Have the parts store read your codes for you and write them down, some will print them out for you.
