It’s the carbs that I bought as spares and rebuilt. I set the A/F screws at 2.5 turns out from base - according to the Ninja 250 forums, that’s the ideal setting.

Now, with all other parts being new, most of the variables are eliminated. I know I don’t have any air leaks and everything is tight. There is a chance that the circuit might have some old varnish or gunk in it.
The carbs were very clean when I got them, but that doesn’t mean that the previous owner took the time to clean out all those tiny passages.

I’m cleaning (thoroughly, by hand) the original carbs as we speak and will set them off to the side as a spare set that is ready to go.

blast out the passages in the lower part of the intake side of the carbs with carb cleaner. That’s the pilot jet air passage. Then get a small screw driver and adjust the A/F screws on the bike with it warm and running. That’s the only way to get it right. Some times those passages have been crushed or the needles messed up over the years with people messing with them.
