My google searches have essentially led to:
27.5 vs 29 is a daily argument between the two groups
Both agree 26" should die and stay dead

Yeah don't get caught up on the interwebs, that will lead to paralysis by internet. Just go to your local shop and try some stuff and go with what feels best. At the end of the day they're just bicycles

Hit the top of my helmet on an overhanging tree on a climb at Croft last week (thought I would clear it, guess I mis judged) and was wishing I was a munchkin at that point, so it has its benefits!

What’s the potential budget? The used market, which I typically endorse, is crazy inflated right now. Sadly this is partially due to the extremely limited supply of new bikes in certain price ranges. So again, budget is key currently.

Not sure on the frame size you need but @paleh0rse has a good ibis he’s looking to sell.

Depending what I can sell my fathom for, I would probably spend $2k-2.5k. Would prefer right around $2k. Frame size is large.

There's a new 2020 Giant Trance 2 (29er) in Charleston that is $2.9k, but Giant is doing 0% financing through Affirm. Tempting, but still more than I would like to spend.

All my hobby money went to camping, snowboarding, and plinking this year.

@SummitBound is too tall for that bike and he'd be happier on a 29er. I bet @paleh0rse is only on a large at most.

I tried large and xl and liked large best. Think it’s just the way my length of torso is vs legs

I have a longer torso, which you think would help me be a better swimmer, but my form sucks haha.

but you’re right, I was initially thinking XL but felt better on the large

I'm the opposite, short torso, longer arms and legs so I tend to go larger if I am in between sizes.
