I can never understand these bikes with just stupid low mileage on them. When I bought my Buell S-2 way back in 1995 I only lived about 17 miles away from the dealership but just taking it home I racked up over 150 miles. My 2014 Yamaha FJR1300 had 7655 miles on it when I bought it 9/27/19. By November 1 I had added over 5k to that number.

People buy them without knowing what they really are, hop on them and realize they are uncomfortable, too fast, just not right for them. Basically people have too much money and are stupid. I bought my 2006 SV650 in 2010 with only 1700 miles on it. Put 20k miles on it the first year I owned it. I am upset I have only put 460 miles on the grom and I have owned it for 4 months. No time to ride with everything going on right now. Instead I just post pictures of me adding milk crates :anonymous:

I spent almost 16 years working part time at a Harley Davidson dealership in the parts department and I saw it quite a bit. Guy would come in and buy a new Harley because all his buddies had them or his mid-life crisis side piece liked bikes or some other really stupid reason beyond their own interest in riding or learning to ride and the bike would be back in for state inspection the next year with only 150 miles on it or something. We had a 2005 or 2006 Softail Heritage traded in around 2012 or so that only had 168 miles on it from new. I know in my own life that owning 3 bikes means something always sits more that it should and I keep meaning to take the other 2 bikes out more often but the FJR is just so easy to jump on and throw my lunchbox in a saddlebag for work rather than carrying stuff in a backpack like when I was younger.

Thanks for looking out for me!

As badly as I want a CBR600RR, I just can’t make it happen right now from a financial standpoint. I’m working on it, though.

Will do, and thanks! I’m meticulously cleaning the original carbs today and I’m doing exactly that. I soaked all the jets and emulsification tubes in parts cleaner overnight, currently cleaning the tiny holes with copper wire.
I’m going to get this thing running right with one pair of carbs or the other.

Thanks to all for the help and advice.

Ultrasonic cleaner is what you really need to get all the crap out of the small passages. The one from Harbor Freight actually does decent. Coworker of mine did his using the HF ultrasonic cleaner and a bath of diluted Simple Green and they came out looking almost like new and the passages were thoroughly clean. Better than trying to use a can of spray cleaner and small wires could have done.

I bought my 2002 Sportster in 2018 with 6000 miles on it. Only put 2000 miles on it since then.

Sometimes life and other hobbies get in the way.

    :notsure:

I did put 10k on my ZX-6R in about 10 months as a younger man. But that’s because it was my DD. My body couldn’t handle that now haha.

Admittedly I'm far more into bikes than any 4 wheel vehicle so I know I'm largely the exception. Been riding since 1985 and have never been without at least one bike during that time and usually 2 or more of them. My truck hasn't seen a year over 5k miles for at least the past 8-10 years. Sadly this year my riding mileage is WAY down with this Covid stuff going on. 2018 I was just under 25k by motorcycle and mounted 3 pairs of tires that year riding to 28 states.

I put 25k+ a year on my Taco from 2012-2019 between commuting, fishing and hunting.

Bought a full size truck thinking my mileage would decrease now that I live 1 mile from work, but somehow I'm still on pace to hit 20k in a year!

Maybe I need to buy a dual sport for these hunting and fishing trips.

I hit and killed one of those damned forest rats on the Buell pictured in my avatar back in 2002. To make it worse I was on my way home from the doctor where I'd just found out I had a hernia.

I don't ride enough, been trying to work on that. Definitely put more miles on the motorcycle than my truck this past year though

Nice! I changed the oil in my Bolt sometime in mid-May, and I've put 1,300 miles on it since then. I think I put 400 miles on the SV in the last year, pretty pitiful.

The Taco I just drive on the weekends here and there, but will be using it a lot more once we get the house.
