It does, but proper technique and blue tape costs less.

    :notsure:

For complicated designs you’ll be going through a lot of tape so the price difference adds up.

Thanks for the tip. I did use frog tape for the detailed lines, and tried to go over every line with my fingers slowly and with a lot of pressure, but it just wasn't quite enough. Also, as I was finishing the second coat, some of the tape actually started coming off. If I had needed a third coat, I would have been screwed. I will try to remember your suggestion next time. ( hopefully there won't be a next time hahaha).

how well does something like this work?

    upload_2020-7-20_18-55-5.jpg

I’m going to get help before attempting this, just wondering if it’s feasible in closing this area above my stairs. Or if there would be another way to do new floor joists.

I thought the exact same thing, ended up costing me a new water heater. Post pictures, I'm curious what yours looks like. I tried to get the anode rode out of the one that failed, but it was stuck with a capital S.

If it gets filled in solid, it looks like a good way to make your entry very dark, cutting off the light from the windows.

    What would be the intent?

I built something similar over my stairs in the garage for more storage space. If you do it, make sure you check your head clearances. I believe you're supposed to have at least 7 feet clear from tread to obstruction.

I built a house with an entry like yours. We had the option of creating a second floor space or having it open. We went with the open look and after a couple of years wished we made the other choice for more living space.

If I were going to add that room I would remove the sheet rock, and install the proper beams, joist hangers, joists, walls, etc. How would you access the space? And what is the relationship of the widow with the new second floor?

Add a window next to the front door, that will lighten it up.

The window is on a colonial style house. So they all match for the most part on distancing and such.

Also to have access it would either be right at the top of the stairs or take that wall on the right of the photo down.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I'm very impressed with the turnaround. It is very easy on the eyes. What material is the vertical siding?

in my house the open entry front window was different than the one with more second story space. Sounds like your good though. I wouldn’t worry too much about a dark entry. Put some nice lights in there and it’ll be fine.

Not if you made a second story above it.

I needed a hose connection on the side of my garage to wash the sand off after kayaking. The problem is the garage freezes in the winter so any water lines have to be winterize-able.

    Here’s the first wash.

    5B72DDC1-DC76-47A6-8D20-EED9986DF3F6.jpg

put a stop and waste valve in the basement. Come winter time I’ll blow the water out of the line from here.

    24E9E6DC-E6D8-4F46-985D-369D23C8CB42.jpg

From the valve to the end there is close to 80 feet of pex. Ran it down the side of the garage and covered it in insulation to protect it from UV rays.

    5E2C1DF7-519F-4DCD-A18E-C21017198EC4.jpg

and this is the end. Looks like it’s has always been there. (And the HOA is none the wiser  )

one of the hardest things is finding a picture on the internet of a layout like what I'm thinking with stairs oriented in the same way.

I literally had to look at your picture twice. At firsts glance it looks like my entry. In my old house that space would have had an entry from the second floor master bedroom. It was advertised as a master retreat or nursery.

I think office spot off of living room would be best. I'll try to draw a photo of my floor layout and post it.

Thank ya, that all was done from October to June roughly. The vinyl siding is Certainteeds spruce 7” board and batten. The sides and rear of the house are just regular horizontal siding.

Any ideas on how to get hard water stains off glass shower doors? Tried a few things got some off but theres still some towards the bottom. Tried the vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda, lime away, weiman glass cooktop cleaner, dawn and vinegar...
